Elle porte sur le traitement préventif intermittent communautaire pendant la grossesse (c-IPTp...), avec pour objectif de renforcer la prévention du paludisme chez les femmes enceintes grâce à des interventions menées au niveau communautaire.
La déclaration propose des politiques, des recommandations et des déclarations conjointes pour orienter la mise en œuvre des stratégies du traitement préventif intermittent du paludisme pendant la grossesse au niveau communautaire .

En su condición de departamento técnico de la OMS para el paludismo, al Programa Mundial sobre Malaria le corresponde una importante función de liderazgo de la respuesta mundial. Por medio de sus acciones directas y su red, tiene la capacidad de conformar el ecosistema de la respuesta al paludism...o y lograr un impacto a nivel de los países. Teniendo esto en cuenta, el Programa Mundial sobre Malaria ha elaborado una estrategia operativa en la que se exponen sus prioridades para el periodo 2024-2030 y las cuatro palancas estratégicas para controlar y eliminar el paludismo que son parte esencial del mandato del Programa: normas y criterios, nuevos instrumentos e innovación, información estratégica para generar impacto, y liderazgo. La estrategia describe el modo en que el Programa Mundial sobre Malaria se transformará también por medio de una colaboración más eficaz con otros programas, con las oficinas regionales y en los países, y con los asociados, tomando como guía las enseñanzas extraídas del Decimotercer Programa General de Trabajo (13.º PGT) de la OMS y las prioridades del 14.º PGT.

The Malaria Ministerial Conference, co-hosted by WHO and the Government of Cameroon on 6 March 2024, brought together more than 400 stakeholders, including Ministers of Health and senior representatives from the African countries hardest hit by malaria, global health leaders, scientists, civil socie...ty and other partners. The pivotal meeting sought to leverage political commitment, scientific innovation and community engagement to reshape the trajectory of malaria control in high burden African countries, and beyond.
At the end of the meeting and in the weeks that followed, Ministers of Health from the 11 “High Burden High Impact” African countries (Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ghana, Mali, Mozambique, Niger, Nigeria, Sudan, Uganda and United Republic of Tanzania) signed the Yaoundé Declaration, pledging their “unwavering commitment” to the principle that “no one should die from malaria given the tools and systems available.” Success in reducing malaria morbidity and mortality will hinge on efforts by countries to translate this political commitment into actions and resources that will save lives.

Malaria in pregnancy is a significant health problem in malaria-endemic areas. It not only causes substantial childhood morbidity and mortality but also increases the risks of adverse events for pregnant women and their developing fetuses. Most of the burden in these areas is due to infection with P...lasmodium falciparum. Artemisinin-based combination therapy (ACT) has been recommended as first-line treatment for uncomplicated P. falciparum malaria in all populations, including pregnant women in their second and third trimesters, since 2006. However, for women in their first trimester of pregnancy, WHO recommended as first-line treatment a combination of quinine and clindamycin.
Based on a review of the evidence conducted in 2022, WHO now recommends artemether–lumefantrine, the ACT with the most human safety data available, as the preferred treatment for uncomplicated P. falciparum malaria in the first trimester of pregnancy. This document presents all relevant evidence on the effects and safety in early pregnancy of artemisinins and partner medicines used in ACTs from both studies in experimental animals and observational studies in humans.

In order to improve access to malaria services in remote mining areas of Guyana, the Ministry of Health and PAHO implemented a community case management programme, training workers in mining camps to test for and treat uncomplicated malaria. However, formative research by Breakthrough ACTION Guyana ...found that awareness of these services among miners was low. In response, the project supported the development of social and behavioural change (SBC) interventions to increase the visibility of volunteer malaria testers (VMTs), strengthen their counselling skills and improve retention by recognising their contributions.

Activity Brief.Formative research revealed that gold miners in remote regions of Guyana viewed malaria as an unavoidable and minor risk compared to other dangers. Building on these insights, Breakthrough ACTION co-created the 'Lil Mosquito, Big Problem' (LMBP) social and behavioural change campaign,... which targeted miners in malaria-endemic areas (Regions 7 and 8). Adopting a human-centred design approach, the campaign collaborated with the Ministry of Health, mining organisations, and miners throughout its development. LMBP used visual, low-literacy materials featuring animated and live-action characters to raise awareness of the risks of malaria and encourage key behaviours such as timely testing, adhering to treatment and consistently using insecticide-treated nets. Launched in 2019 and scaled up until 2024, this multi-channel campaign aimed to change attitudes and improve malaria prevention in these hard-to-reach communities.
