Save the Children Sweden has a...pplied to Sida for funding of 1,5 million SEK for Supporting vulnerable and deprived children with educational and protective/hygienic kits in rural areas of Kosovo during the period 1 October 2020 until 31 January 2021. The proposed intervention will focus on approximately 700 families (with approximately 1,400 children and 1,400 adults) who will benefit from educational and protective equipment/hygienic kits directly. These families and children live in remote and rural areas -- including children with disabilities, Roma, Ashkali, and Egyptian children will be supported with didactic and learning materials as well as technological solutions in order to enable access to learning platforms established by the Ministry of Education in cooperation with Save the Children, UNICEF and other partners. These materials, delivered in the form of care and learning packages through a carefully tailored process, will help vulnerable and disadvantaged children to narrow down the learning gap with their well-to-do peers. The protective/hygienic packages will enable children and their families to protect themselves and others at home and in the community, it will also support children's access to classrooms and other learning environments. The Project will organize also awareness-raising activities to inform parents and caretakers – including children – on positive parenting without violence, sharing up-to-date information about COVID-19 and safety precautions, and by empowering them through targeted psycho-social support activities.

LOCAL CLIMATE ADAPTIVE LIVING ...FACILITY - LOCAL - COVID-19 RESPONSE BY LOCAL

|
Local Climate Adaptive Living ...Facility - LoCAL - COVID-19 Response by LoCAL
more
|
UNCDF has since 2011, at globa...l level, run the programme LoCAL (Local Climate Adaptive Living) to deliver climate finance solutions for local governments in developing countries, partially using Swedish funding through Sida (54040181 Financial Inclusion, 54020137 Leveraging Domestic Finance and 61050459 Last Mile Financing Trust Fund (ongoing)). The programme is now being replicated at country level in Asia and in Africa. In Mozambique, UNCDF developed a country programmatic framework and initiated a pilot project in Gaza province starting 2015, with additional financing from the Belgian Cooperation. The proposed contribution Local Climate Adaptive Living - LoCAL Mozambique is a first upscaling phase of the already ongoing pilot project. It aims to reduce the vulnerability of the rural population and improve resilience to climate change at district level through increase in access to climate change adaptation financing through performance-based climate resilient grants (PBCRGs). The main expected results are (in short):1. Effective financing mechanism established and operationalised.2. Climate change mainstreamed in district planning and budgeting.3. Climate Change resilient investments (infrastructure and services)4. Monitoring and evaluation for Learning.5. Preparations for national upscale phase (from 2023 and onwards). The proposed programme will be implemented during 2018-2023 in the districts of Massingir, Guijá, Mabalane och Chicualacuala in the Gaza province (ongoing pilot phase since 2015) with gradual upscaling in these districts and replication in Chigubo, Massangena, Chókwe and Chibuto districts in Gaza and to the districts of Jangamo, Panda, Funhalouro, Govuro and Mabote in the Inhambane province. The selection of districts has been done on the basis of an analysis of vulnerability to climate change, in consultation with concerned stakeholders. The central idea of LoCAL Mozambique is to provide financing as PBCRGs of priority actions identified in the PLAs by local communities, both infrastructure and non-infrastructure, not at household level. Examples of PBCRGs under the ongoing LoCAL pilot phase: Equipment for water supply and irrigation systems, parts of a maternity ward, rainwater harvesting dam for livestock and agriculture, electrical power transformation post (for irrigation scheme), re-roofing of primary schools, and a Resilience techniques training center - Livestock branch. Budgets per project during the 2017/2018 season range between 0,4 Mkr - 1,1 Mkr.Grant allocations are performance-based. A basic formula for dividing available funding between participating districts based on population size and land area is first applied. From the 2nd year onwards, annual allocations are re-distributed based on scores attained in annual district performance assessments. The pre-defined district performance measures include some related to Public Finance Management and Local Governance, to Food Security and Nutrition, and to Climate Chan

The contribution is an additio...nal support to the implementation of Tanzania's Productive Social Safety Net (PSSN) program which aim at the poorest segment of the population. The additional financing is motivated by good results achieved so far, by a collaboration that works well, by an existing financing gap and by desirability to increase the incentive for Tanzania to contribute to the programme to a larger extent. The assessment that was made to underpin the decision on support in March 2016 is still largely valid. The program is nationwide and targets approximately one million households identified as extremely poor. Every two month households receive a fixed cash transfer that is adjusted to the household size. In addition to the fixed contribution, households can also receive an additional transfer that is conditional on children attending school and small children brought on regular visits to primary health care centres. PSSN also includes a public works component. During the agricultural lean season, when it is difficult to find temporary jobs, labour-intensive projects that in various ways contribute to the local communities' development are implemented (e.g. construction of class rooms and dams for irrigation). Only people belonging to the poorest households, i.e. those who are also eligible for the direct cash transfers, are eligible to participate in the public works projects.By design PSSN empowers women. The payment of both cash contributions and compensation for participation in public works are made to an adult woman in the household. Only in households where there is no adult woman the payment can be made to a man. In addition to the direct cash transfers and public works components, PSSN includes a livelihood component to help households develop productive activities in order to eventually be able to graduate from poverty. The Tanzanian government represented by the Ministry of Finance and Planning is Sweden's agreement partner. Tanzania Social Action Fund (TASAF), under the President's Office, is the implementing authority. Sweden's contribution will be deposited in a program account at the Bank of Tanzania as will the contributions from the World Bank and DFID. Tanzania, represented by the Ministry of Finance and Planning, is formally responsible for ensuring that the Swedish contribution is used for intended purposes. TASAF uses the money in the program account to implement PSSN in accordance with agreed annual work-plans and budgets. PSSN's National Steering Committee, with representatives from both the public and private sector, is responsible for the strategic management of the program and decides on annual plans and budgets. TASAF and its director is responsible to the NSC, and have overall responsibility for program implementation and monitoring. TASAF implements the program in villages and urban wards through regional and local level government authorities. TASAF is part of the Tanzanian Government and is organisationally

After the revolutionary change...s in North Africa, the Federal Council decided on March 2011 that various Swiss government agencies would reinforce or renew their engagement in North Africa. The Programme North Africa 2011–2016 represents the joint operational framework of the involved Federal Offices. In 2012, SDC identified many programmes and projects, but programme development -conceptualising national/regional programmes- continues in 2013. This proposal secures the required funding for respective project identification missions.

BRICK PROJECT

Brick Project
|
The Programme's goal is to con...tribute to reduced emission of GHG and pollution in the construction sector to mitigate global warming, environmental and health degradation. To achieve this the Programme will be playing a stronger role in policy dialogue, advocacy and awareness creation. The context is favourable for a total elimination of the most polluting brick production factories in Kathmandu Valley. The outcomes are as follows: - Building materials and construction entrepreneurs adopt environmental friendly technologies and demonstrate a socially responsible behaviour; - Real estate developers and individuals construct their own houses in urban and semi-urban areas using energy efficient building materials and technologies (ownership and marking); and - Government of Nepal (GoN) have a favourable policy environment promoting clean production technologies in the brick sector (i.e. incentives for cleaner production). To ensure sustainability of the programme the required support services will be institutionalized and privatised. In addition alliances with main donors and international as well as local partners will be established.

Livelihood Improvement Program...me Takhar (LIPT) – Bridging Phase
more
|
Widespread poverty and malnutr...ition, weak institutions and scarce public services characterize the environment in the mountainous areas of North-Eastern Afghanistan. The Livelihood Improvement Programme Takhar (LIPT) is improving the living conditions of the rural population in Rustaq district through income generating activities and the promotion of sustainable natural resource management techniques. This last phase will allow a significant upscaling of the successful initiatives of LIPT.

Swisspeace: Atelier francophon...e traitement du passé - Dakar
more
|

The greatest global challenge ...today is how to ensure food and nutrition security of a rapidly growing human population, considering climate change and without adversely affecting the natural base upon which the production is dependent. Beans, as the most important consumed grain legume, are a very good source of vitamins, minerals, and plant derived micronutrients. Significant yield increase of more than 60% are possible, following access to and use of improved varieties coupled with integrated crop management practices.

The International Centre of In...sect Physiology and Ecology (ICIPE) is working on arthropods in agriculture, health and environmental issues. Arthropods are at the core of many development problems, but at the same time they offer a huge potential and opportunities for their utilisation (partial action A). With the greening concept ICIPE is minimising its carbon footprint and saves a large amount of money (partial action B); with the implementation of these measures ICIPE will become a flagship institution.

In Africa, the value of annual... postharvest losses for cereals is estimated at 4 billion US$. In Sub-Saharan Africa losses reach up to 40% of the harvested crop. This project promotes simple technologies (metal silos, improved traditional silos, hermetic bags a.o.) to increase food security and nutrition among smallholder farm families. An estimated 10'000 families benefit directly in two focus countries (Benin, Mozambique). The knowledge gained serves to market postharvest storage options in several other Sub-Saharan countries.

Poor health resulting from air... pollution costs billions of dollars annually in medical costs and lost productivity. Fast action to reduce air pollution can have a direct and more cost effective impact on climate change in the near term. The programme will support the alliance of key Latin American cities committed to taking action and making a difference on two fronts at once that will benefit the most vulnerable: air pollution and climate. The intervention will enhance South-South knowledge exchange capitalising on a successful and long-standing Chilean-Swiss partnership.

Financial services can be deli...vered in the long term only with sound, healthy financial institutions. Inappropriate Corporate Governance (CG) of microfinance institutions (MFIs) including Savings and Credit Unions / Cooperatives (Cooperatives) is the main cause for bankruptcy of the MFIs or over-indebtedness of their clients. Based on the experience of a SDC project in Central America on CG reforms and based on similar other relevant experiences and methodologies, FOMIN and SDC will promote CG reforms in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Wastewater Collection and Trea...tment in Zenica
more
|
The project, co-financed with ...the German Development Bank (Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau, KfW) entails the construction of a wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) and necessary measures for the municipal wastewater network. Additionally, activities for Corporate Development of the public utility and minor urban development measures are planned. Today, still only 31% of population of Bosnia and Herzegovina have access to wastewater services, but at present 12 WWTP are in preparation or under construction in the country. In the city of Zenica, at the moment, approximately 75% of the urban population are already connected to the central sewage network. However, the municipal wastewater is discharged into the river Bosna without treatment and is additionally mixed with the industrial wastewater. The discharge of untreated urban wastewater leads to a considerable pollution of the river and health risks for the population.

Programme d'appui à la valori...sation des produits forestiers non ligneux, phase 2 (PFNL2)
more
|
