The WHO Guidelines on Hand Hygiene in Health Care provide health-care workers (HCWs), hospital administrators and health authorities with a thorough review of evidence on hand hygiene in health care and specific recommendations to impro...ve practices and reduce transmission of pathogenic microorganisms to patients and HCWs. The present Guidelines are intended to be implemented in any situation in which health care is delivered either to a patient or to a specific group in a population. Therefore, this concept applies to all settings where health care is permanently or occasionally performed, such as home care by birth attendants.

These WHO guidelines which were updated in 2018, are valid for any country and suitable to local adaptations, and take account of the strength of available scientific evidence, the cost and resource implications, and patient values and preferences.
The 2018 edition of the guidelines includes the re...vision of the recommendation regarding the use of 80% fraction of inspired oxygen (high FiO2) in surgical patients under general anaesthesia with tracheal intubation and the update of the section on implementation. Between 2017 and 2018, WHO re-assessed the evidence on the use of high FiO2 by updating the systematic review related to the effectiveness of this intervention to reduce SSI and commissioning an independent systematic review on adverse events potentially associated with it. Based on the updated evidence, the GDG decided to revise the strength of the recommendation from strong to conditional.

As the number of transboundary pest and animal and foodborne disease outbreaks rises, so does the number of people who are chronically hungry due to these and other factors. The correlation can be explained by the link between our health and that of the planet. We rely on land and sea for the produc...tion of safe and quality foods for our daily nourishment. Pests and disease epidemics negatively impact the quality, quantity and safety of our food sources, and cripple economic growth and efficiencies in production. Furthermore, the epidemic and endemic levels of the pathogens and disease vectors can be difficult to control. This is why FAO stresses and promotes the special efforts required for cost-effective preventive measures rather than the more expensive control, disinfestation, treatment and disposal measures. When preventive measures are late or difficult, preparedness and contingency plans must be in place to enable rapid response. Early warning systems, based on close monitoring, surveillance, and timely reporting are fundamental to warn and empower communities to safeguard their livelihoods and assets by enhancing disease and pest prevention measures and for government services to take immediate measures to protect communities and national economies.

La resistencia a los antimicrobianos (RAM, utilizado también como equivalente de "resistente a los antimicrobianos en este documento) constituye un importante motivo de preocupación mundial en el ámbito de la salud pública y un problema para la inocuidad de los alimentos. Cuando l...os patógenos se hacen resistentes a los agentes antimicrobianos, pueden ser más peligrosos para la salud humana a causa de un posible fracaso de los tratamientos, de la pérdida de opciones para los tratamientos y de la mayor probabilidad y gravedad de las enfermedades. Los problemas relacionados con la RAM están intrínsecamente relacionados con el uso de antimicrobianos en cualquier ámbito, lo que comprende los usos humanos y no humanos. El uso de agentes antimicrobianos en animales/cultivos destinados a la producción de alimentos constituye un factor potencialmente importante de riesgo de selección y propagación a los seres humanos de microorganismos resistentes y determinantes de RAM a partir de dichos cultivos/animales a través del consumo de alimentos.

Ce document d'orientation est basé sur une recherche sur les activités des médias sociaux liées à l'utilisation des antibiotiques au niveau de l'UE, ainsi que sur une enquête sur les activités des médias sociaux des organisations partenaires de l'EAAD, principalement des organisations de pat...ients et de professionnels de la santé de l'UE. La recherche a montré qu'il existe déjà une certaine activité des médias sociaux sur l'utilisation prudente des antibiotiques et que quelques influenceurs potentiels apparaissent. De même, l'enquête menée auprès des partenaires de l'EAAD à l'échelle de l'UE a montré que les personnes interrogées deviennent actives sur les plateformes de médias sociaux.

La resistenci...a a los antimicrobianos es un problema complejo, con muchos factores que afectan su aparición y propagación, por lo que resulta difícil abordarlo. La guía rápida del proceso de TAP está diseñada para ayudar a los grupos de trabajo de TAP a nivel nacional a aplicar un enfoque de estudio del comportamiento para formular intervenciones apropiadas y factibles a fin de comenzar a combatir la resistencia a los antimicrobianos en sus contextos. La guía proporciona un panorama general de la resistencia a los antimicrobianos y el proceso de TAP, y conduce a los usuarios a lo largo de cinco etapas para evaluar la factibilidad, adquirir una comprensión referencial de los problemas, priorizar los temas que han de tratarse, formular estrategias y ejecutar y evaluar las intervenciones. La guía viene acompañada del Conjunto de Herramientas de TAP.
