Seng Moon’s story is typical of the 37 trafficking survivors interviewed for this report. The
most unusual part of her story is that she escaped with her child; many other survivors
were forced to leave children behind. All the survivors we interviewed were trafficked from,
and managed to retur...n to, Myanmar’s Kachin State or the northern part of neighboring
Shan State. Most were from families affected by fighting in the area between Myanmar
government forces and the Kachin Independence Organization (KIO) and its armed wing,
the Kachin Independence Army (KIA). While the conflict dates to the independence of the
Union of Burma in 1948, the end of a 17-year ceasefire in 2011 resulted in an escalation of
hostilities that has caused the mass displacement of over 100,000 Kachin and other
ethnic minorities.

Scoping question: What is the effectiveness of psychosocial interventions, including caregiver skills training, for emotional disorders in children and adolescents?
This handbook presents basic content and tips for implementing a school-based risk reduction programme. It is organised into five modules: its importance; approach and process; activities to benefit children up to five years old; activities for students aged 5–17; and activities for young people a...nd volunteers aged 17–24.
A generic framework for school-based risk reduction initiatives is illustrated in a diagram on p.10. The Comprehensive School Safety framework suggests a series of continuing activities that include: identifying the hazards in and around a school; conducting drills; preparing contingency and disaster management plans by involving parents, teachers and students; and building on the capacities of an institution and individuals to cope with the challenges during an unforeseen event. The consequences of iron deficiency and anaemia during the postpartum period can be serious and have long-term health implications for the mother and her infant.

The World Health Organization (WHO) endorses the use of population-based prevalence surveys for estimating the prevalence of trachoma. In general, the prevalence of TF in children aged 1–9 years and the prevalence of TT in adults aged ≥ 15 years are measured at the same time in any district bein...g surveyed. This was the approach of the Global Trachoma Mapping Project, which undertook baseline surveys in > 1500 districts worldwide in order to provide the data required to start interventions where needed.
The survey design recommended by WHO is a two-stage cluster random sample survey, which uses probability proportional to size sampling to select 20–30 villages, and random, systematic or quasi-random sampling to select 25–30 households in each of those villages. In most surveys, everyone aged ≥ 1 year living in selected households is examined.
