The project was developed by the International Federation of Medical Students’ Associations (IFMSA), in line with the Federation’s statement “a world in which students are equipped with knowledge, skills and value to take on health leadership roles locally and globally so to... shape a sustainable future”. This was supported by an ongoing and vital engagement from the World Health Organization (WHO) and their work the United Nations Alliance on Climate Change Education, Training and Public Awareness. The overall objective was to create a “all in one” type of resource to bring together climate change, health and youth advocacy.

A global hunger crisis -- fuelled by conflict, economic turbulence and climate-related shocks -- has been exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic. The number of people experiencing food insecurity and hunger has risen since the onset of the pandemic. The IRC estimates that the economic downturn alone w...ill drive the number of hungry people up by an additional 35 million in 2021. Without drastic action, the economic downturn caused by COVID-19 will suspend global progress towards ending hunger by at least five years.

Global food insecurity has markedly increased over the last two-years due to conflict, economic and political instability, displacement, environmental degradation and disasters, and major disruptions to global food systems because of the Covid-19 pandemic. In 2021, levels of hunger surpassed all pre...vious records with close to 193 million people acutely food insecure and in need of urgent assistance across 53 countries and territories. This represents an increase of nearly 40 million people compared to what was previously considered a record level high in 2020.

Die steigende Zahl der Menschen in Berlin ohne bzw. mit geringen Deutschkenntnissen führt zu einem wachsenden Mehrbedarf an Dolmetschleistungen in der Stadt. Sprachliche Hilfe bei der Verständigung in zahlreichen Lebensbereichen wird nötig – ob auf dem Amt, bei Arzt/Ärztin, vor Gericht oder de...m Standesamt. Beim Dolmetschen im Gemeinwesen stehen demnach gesellschaftliche Teilhabe und Inklusion im Mittelpunkt. Da Geflüchtete überdies oftmals von gewaltvollen Erfahrungen in den Heimatländern oder auf der Flucht erzählen müssen, kommt den Dolmetscher*innen und anderen beteiligten Akteur*innen hier eine besondere Verantwortung im Umgang mit ihnen zu. Nicht selten werden in diesem Kontext die Grenzen zwischen der beruflichen und der persönlichen Position der Dolmetscher*innen überschritten.

A study set out to investigate the factors affecting the prevalence of the practice among cross-border communities in East Africa and the Horn of Africa and the extent to which people cross borders to practise or undergo FGM and the effects of the practice on the women and girls in those communities.... Changes were found in social norms in the cross-border communities investigated, indicating that the practice of female genital mutilation (FGM) can be eradicated. Effective interventions to end FGM need to be tailored to communities’ belief systems if they are to be “owned” by and mobilize the communities to change their culture. This report summarises the findings.

A year ago, the second Special Session of the World Health Assembly (WHASS) unanimously agreed to start a diplomatic process for a new binding instrument aimed at ensuring the international community is better prepared for the next health emergencies. The establishment of an Intergovernmental Negoti...ating Body (INB) at the WHO paved the terrain for a proper negotiation, which has started to unfold. The INB will be releasing the “conceptual zero draft” of the treaty text in early December 2022.
