This document contains a series of desk reviews for the eight ENGAGE-TB priority countries supported by the Global Fund (DRC, Kenya, Indonesia, Mozambique, Myanmar, Nigeria, Pakistan and Tanzania). The document provides a situation assessment and gap analysis about the state of community based TB ac...tivities in these countries. The focus on these eight countries was justified by the high prevalence of TB and the very high number of missed/unreported cases.

In 2017, 3.6 million of the estimated 10 million people with TB worldwide were “missed” by national TB programmes (NTPs). Two thirds of them are thought to access TB treatment of questionable quality from public and private providers who are not engaged by the NTP. The quality of care provided i...n these settings is often not known or substandard. Closing these gaps and ensuring patient-centred care imply that quality-assured and affordable TB services must be made available wherever people choose to seek care.

In 2016 CRS leveraged the robust infrastructure of its large, multi-sectoral orphans and vulnerable children (OVC) program in Nigeria by expanding the program's core mandate to include community childhood TB casefinding, with a focus on highly vulnerable children and their caregivers
National Operational Guidelines
These policy guidelines provide a strategic approach and new recommendations for integrated TB and HIV services for patients suffering from substance-abuse addiction. The key recommendations fall under three main categories: joint planning, key interventions, and overcoming barriers.

The results of the SHINE trial have been published in the NEJM today. SHINE looked at whether treatment for children with minimal TB could be reduced from 6 months to 4 months. It found that the four month treatment was as good as the standard six months treatment for children with minimal TB

• Las barreras socioeconómicas y estructurales que impiden acceder a los servicios
de tuberculosis.

La presente guía tiene además como objetivo, ser un respaldo y no una camisa de fuerza para los médicos, pues pretendemos con ella proveer evidencia sólida respecto a los riesgos, beneficios o consecuencias que puede generar la toma de una decisión en pacientes con tuberculosis. Como lo propone... el Ministerio Nacional de Salud en sus normas técnicas, se busca un manejo integral del niño con tuberculosis pulmonar, asegurando la oportunidad, la eficiencia y la calidad de la atención.
