La prevención de un brote de una enfermedad prevenible mediante vacunación no solo salva vidas, sino que requiere menos recursosque la respuesta al brote y ayuda a reducir la carga que supone para los sistemas de salud, los cuales ya están sometidos a una fuerte presión por la pandemia de COVID-19. En sus esfuerzos por mantener los sistemas de inmunización, los países deben adoptar enfoques que respeten el principio de «no hacer daño» y limiten la transmisión de la COVID-19 durante la realización de actividades de inmunización. Las visitas para la administración de vacunas también pueden ser una ocasión para divulgar mensajes que fomenten comportamientos que reducen el riesgo de transmisión del virus de la COVID-19 y para proporcionar orientaciones sobre las medidas que deben adoptarse si se observan síntomas.

Dans la plupart des pays d’Afrique subsaharienne, la prévention reste la stratégie clé. Dans ce document, cinq centres nationaux de la plateforme de l’Observatoire africain de la santé sur les systèmes et politiques de santé (AHOP), basés en Éthiopie, au Kenya, au Nigéria, au Rwanda et au Sénégal analysent les leçons à tirer de leurs mesures d’endiguement respectives lors despremières phases de la pandémie.

OC43 y HKU1 que pueden causar enfermedades de tipo influenza o neumonía en humanos. Sin embargo,
tres betacoronavirus zoonóticos que pueden causar enfermedad severa en humanos han emergido: el
coronavirus del Síndrome respiratorio agudo grave (SARS-CoV), el coronavirus del Síndrome respiratorio de
Oriente Medio (MERS-CoV) y el virus de COVID-19 (SARS-CoV-2).
