19ي زمن الكوفيدفالحقوق COVID-19دروس من فيروس نقص المناعة البشري من أجل استجابة فعالة يقودها المجتمع.
Right now, we are facing an unpredictable and highly dynamic situation as a global community. However, as we have seen from the solidarity, support and power of communities in the HIV epidemic and already in communities responding to the COVID-19 pandemic, the response must not be fear and stigma. W...e need to build a culture of solidarity, trust and kindness. Our response to COVID-19 must be grounded in the realities of people’s lives and focused on eliminating the barriers people face in being able to protect themselves and their communities. Empowerment and guidance, rather than restrictions, can ensure that people can act without fear of losing their livelihood, sufficient food being on the table and the respect of their community. Ultimately it will give us a more effective, humane and sustainable response to the epidemic.

Finally, the report identifies seven areas where there are key gaps and opportunities presenting the potential for innovation in research and practice.

The global pandemic has highlighted fragility in international supply chains and the dependency of many African countries on imported personal protective equipment (PPE). Market pressures have also increased prices for imported supplies and put additional pressure on areas with limited resources for... procurement. There is an urgent operational need to develop the domestic capacity to supply PPE from within the African continent. There is huge variation in Member
States industrial manufacturing capacity and the regulatory and testing capacity of government agencies at present. Growing number of companies, including micro- and small-medium enterprises, have responded by repurposing, albeit temporarily, to manufacture an assortment of PPEs. This workshop aims to bring together government representatives, industry, and subject matter experts on material testing and standards to promote the development of domestic production of safe and effective PPE made in Africa.

14 March 2022. Ukraine emergency response
WHO appreciates offers of contributions of supply support in solidarity with the affected population of the current conflict in Ukraine.
Please note that supply into and within Ukraine is seriously constrained by continuously shifting conflict zones, d...amage to infrastructure and potential shortages of power and fuel. The WHO priority is to supply critically needed items in a manner that is safe, secure, and responsive to the environment in which we are operating in. Access constraints require that logistics planning and capacity are paramount if supplies are to move smoothly to destinations where they are needed.

Participants included Mental Health Focal Points at the Ministries of Health, the World Health Organization (WHO) country ...and regional offices, and civil society representatives. Responses were received from 28 countries out of 55 contacted. The implementation level, based on standard guidelines, of MHPSS activities was below 50% in most countries. The most implemented MHPSS activities were establishing coordination groups (57%) and developing MHPSS strategy (45%), while the least implemented activities included implementing the developed MHPSS strategy (32%) and establishing monitoring and evaluation mechanisms (21%). Key factors that hindered implementing MHPSS activities included lack of political commitment and low prioritisation of mental health during emergencies, as it was seen as a “less important” issue during the COVID-19 pandemic, when more importance was given to infection prevention and control (IPC)
