This document is the first in a series jointly produced by WHO´s Division of Family Health and the Division of Mental Health around the general theme of women and mental health. The aim of the series is to create a forum to debate issues related to women´s mental health and to their contribution ...to mental health care. This debate will contribute to the general reappraisal of women´s health problems, giving long overdue recognition to their strength and steadfastness in coping with the myriad problems that assail them, and pointing out future directions for research and action to address women´s needs.

A comprehensive compilation is provided of the medicinal plants of the Southeast Asian country of Myanmar (formerly Burma). This contribution, containing 123 families, 367 genera, and 472 species, was compiled from earlier treatments, monographs, books, and pamphlets, with some medicinal uses and pr...eparations translated from Burmese to English. The entry for each species includes the Latin binomial, author(s), common Myanmar and English names, range, medicinal uses and preparations, and additional notes. Of the 472 species, 63 or 13% of them have been assessed for conservation status and are listed in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species (IUCN 2017). Two species are listed as Extinct in the Wild, four as Threatened (two Endangered, two Vulnerable), two as Near Threatened, 48 Least Concerned, and seven Data Deficient. Botanic gardens worldwide hold 444 species (94%) within their living collections, while 28 species (6%) are not found any botanic garden. These interim IPC recommendations for health settings have been developed through the contributions of many individuals and institutions, such as the Centers for Disease Control-Kenya; ITECH; US Agency for International Development (USAID) Medicines, Technologies, and Pharmaceu...tical Services (MTaPS) Program; and WHO that are committed to ensuring that the transmission of COVID-19 to HCWs and the public within the health care setting is limited. The Ministry of Health (MOH) through the Directorate of Health Standards Quality Assurance and Regulations wishes to thank all the contributing authors led by the sub-committee on case management and IPC for the COVID-19 response for their expertise and time given to writing these guidelines.

In 1964 medical mission was challenged and called to define its distinctiveness and its special role in the context of that particular time. The consultation "Tuebingen I" clearly stated: "The Christian church has a specific task in the field of health and healing"1, and developed a conce...pt of wholeness and of the role of the congregation in health provision. 50 years later, the question of the proprium of Christian health services is again a very important one. At a time when governments, international non-governmental organizations and other philanthropic organizations participate in health care, the question has to be asked: What is the specific contribution of a Christian health service or ministry of healing? At a time when chronic disease challenges not only rich but now also poor countries, when infections like Ebola that for years were hidden in Africa pose a threat to the global situation, Christians have to reflect on the question of the proprium of Christian health care.

14 March 2022. Ukraine emergency response
WHO appreciates offers of contributions of supply support in solidarity with the affected population of the current conflict in Ukraine.
Please note that supply into and within Ukraine is seriously constrained by continuously shifting conflict zones, d...amage to infrastructure and potential shortages of power and fuel. The WHO priority is to supply critically needed items in a manner that is safe, secure, and responsive to the environment in which we are operating in. Access constraints require that logistics planning and capacity are paramount if supplies are to move smoothly to destinations where they are needed.

Nationally determined contributions (NDCs) serve to meet the goals of the Paris Agreement of staying “well below 2°C”, which could also yield substantial health co-benefits in the process. However, existing NDC commitments are inadequa...te to achieve this goal. Placing health as a key focus of the NDCs could present an opportunity to increase ambition and realise health co-benefits. We modelled scenarios to analyse the health co-benefits of NDCs for the year 2040 for nine representative countries (ie, Brazil, China, Germany, India, Indonesia, Nigeria, South Africa, the UK, and the USA) that were selected for their contribution to global greenhouse gas emissions and their global or regional influence.

Dengue is the fastest spreading, mosquito-borne viral infectious disease worldwide, with remarkable morbidity and mortality. In the past decades, profound contributions have been made towards understanding its epidemiology, including disease burden and distributions, risk factors, and control and pr...evention practices. Dengue continues to disseminate to new areas, including high latitude regions, and a new serotype (dengue virus serotype 5) has been identified. Vaccine research has made new progress, in which the licensed yellow fever and dengue virus quadrivalent chimeric vaccine is now under further safety assessment. In disease surveillance, because of its operational simplicity, rapidity, capability, and utility as an indicator of disease severity, dengue virus NS1 antigen detection has great promotion and application value among primary health care institutions. Vector control progress has driven new breakthroughs in biotechnology, including Wolbachia-infected Aedes and genetically modified Aedes. Both Aedes variants have been used to block transmission of the dengue virus through population replacement and suppression. In the future, vector control should still be pursued as a key measure to prevent transmission, along with anti-viral drug and vaccine research.

Unfortunately, current data available on SDG financing are not sufficient to quantify the distribution of financing for the SDGs.
AidData’s methodology for measuring financing to the SDGs attempts to fill this gap by analyzing development project documentation to estimate project-level contributi...ons to the SDGs (and their associated targets). This methodology lets us see where development financing is targeted, allowing comparisons among SDG goals and individual SDG targets.
This methodology note describes two iterations of AidData’s methodology. The first, based on a crosswalk with existing aid reporting schemes, was employed for AidData’s 2017 flagship report Realizing Agenda 2030: Will donor dollars and country priorities align with global goals? and our brief Financing the SDGs in Colombia. The second iteration of the methodology employs a direct coding scheme, linking development projects directly to the SDGs through analysis and coding of project descriptions rather than through an intermediary classification system. This method was employed for our 2019 brief Financing the SDGs: Evidence in Four Countries.
