Chagas disease (CD) is a neglected tropical disease, endemic in Latin America, but due to migration and environmental changes it has become a global public health issue.
Chagas disease constitutes a public health problem, and Spain is the non-endemic country with the highest burden of disease outside the Americas. This review focusses on the interactions between the etiologic agent of Chagas disease, Trypanosoma cruzi, and its triatomine vector. The flagellate mainly colonizes the intestinal tract of the insect. The effect of triatomines on trypanosomes is indicated by susceptibility and refractoriness phenom...ena that vary according to the combination of the strains. Other effects are apparent in the different regions of the gut. In the stomach, the majority of ingested blood trypomastigotes are killed while the remaining transform to round stages. In the small intestine, these develop into epimastigotes, the main replicative stage. In the rectum, the population density is the highest and is where the infectious stage develops, the metacyclic trypomastigote. In all regions of the gut, starvation and feeding of the triatomine affect T. cruzi. In the small intestine and rectum, starvation reduces the population density and more spheromastigotes develop. In the rectum, feeding after short-term starvation induces metacyclogenesis and after long-term starvation the development of specific cells, containing several nuclei, kinetoplasts and flagella. When considering the effects of T. cruzi on triatomines, the flagellate seems to be of low pathogenicity. However, during stressful periods, which are normal in natural populations, effects occur often on the behaviour, eg, in readiness to approach the host, the period of time before defecation, dispersal and aggregation. In nymphs, the duration of the different instars and the mortality rates increase, but this seems to be induced by repeated infections or blood quality by the feeding on infected hosts. Starvation resistance is often reduced by infection. Longevity and reproduction of adults is reduced, but only after infection with some strains of T. cruzi. Only components of the surface coat of blood trypomastigotes induce an immune reaction. However, this seems to act against gut bacteria and favours the development of T. cruzi.

In the Region of the Americas, between epidemiological week (EW) 1 and EW 521 of 2019, a total of 3,139,335 cases of dengue have been reported (321.58 cases per 100,000 population), including 1,538 deaths. Of the total cases, 1,367,...353 (43.6%) were laboratory-confirmed and 28,169 (0.9%) were classified as severe dengue. The case-fatality rate was 0.049%.

Notable progress has also been made on other key health indicators such as reducing maternal, infant and child deaths and malnutrition, increasing immunization coverage, eliminating infectious diseases such as polio and reducing the incidence of malaria, tuberculosis and diarrhoeal diseases.
But ...despite such substantial progress, the country now faces new and emerging new challenges such as the rising burden of noncommunicable diseases, increased risks associated with disasters, environmental threats and health emergencies during disease outbreaks including the COVID-19 pandemic that is a serious public health threat to Bangladesh. To establish a resilience system for future potential pandemics, the national capacity for emergency preparedness and early response to health emergencies needs to be bolstered considerably.

L’enquête SMART Rapide a été réalisée dans la commune de Fada N’Gourma, chef-lieu de la province du Gourma dans la région de l’Est. C’est la commune de la région qui accueille le plus de personnes déplacées internes (PDI) depuis le début de la crise sécuritaire (85 574 PDIs à la ...date du 30 avril 2022)1 . Ces déplacées ont pour la plupart abandonnées leurs moyens d’existence et se retrouvent dans la précarité et sous l’assistance humanitaire et des populations hôtes.
La méthodologie SMART Rapide a été utilisé pour l’évaluation. Les secteurs/villages ont été sélectionnés par le logiciel ENA en utilisant la probabilité proportionnelle à la taille.
Quant aux ménages, ils ont été sélectionnés selon un processus de segmentation, d’échantillonnage aléatoire simple ou systématique. Les données ont été collectés du 13 au 15 juin 2022 par cinq équipes composées d’un chef d’équipe et d’un mesureur chacune. Les équipes ont été supervisées durant la collecte par des superviseurs. Les paramètres collectés étaient l’âge, le sexe, le poids, la taille, le périmètre brachial et la présence des œdèmes. Quatre grappes ont été inaccessibles due aux problèmes sécuritaires.
Au total, 24 grappes (avec l’utilisation des grappes de réserve), 235 ménages et 356 enfants ont été couverts. Les résultats montrent une prévalence de la malnutrition aiguë globale de 15,2% (11,2%-20,2%) selon le rapport poids/taille et 7,8% (5,0%-11,9%) selon le périmètre brachial. La malnutrition aiguë globale combinée est de 16,9% (12,9%-22,0%).

L’enquête Smart rapide de 2022 s’est tenue dans la commune de Ouahigouya dans la Province du Yatenga, région du Nord. La commune est confrontée à des attaques de groupes armés et accueille des milliers de personnes déplacées interne fuyant l’insécurité.
La méthodologie SMART rapide ...a été utilisée pour cette enquête dont la collecte s’est déroulée du 13 au 15 juin 2022. Au total, cinq (05) équipes de deux enquêteurs ont été employées pour cette collecte. Vingt-trois (23) grappes sur vingt-cinq (25) grappes prévues ont été couvertes. Deux grappes n’ont pu être enquêtées pour des raisons sécuritaires. Au total, 230 ménages et 217 enfants ont été enquêtés au cours de cette enquête.
Les données ont été collectées sur des SMARTPHONES à travers un formulaire conçu à cet effet sur la plateforme Kobotoolbox. Le serveur de bureau d’Action contre la faim de Ouahigouya a servi de plateforme d’hébergement des données. Les données collectées ont ensuite été extraite puis traiter grâce au tableau Excel avant d’être analysé avec le Logiciel ENA pour SMART (version de janvier 2020).
Les résultats sont synthétisés dans le tableau I.
