Le COVID-19 est un nouveau coronavirus, proche de celui du Syndrome Respiratoire Aigu Sévère (SRAS) qui avait été à l’origine d’une épidémie meurtrière en 2003. L’infection par ce nouveau coronavirus se manifeste le plus souvent par une fièvre et des signes respiratoires pouvant se co...mpliquer par un syndrome de détresse respiratoire aiguë. Jusqu’à présent, la plupart des cas graves ont été signalés chez des personnes souffrant d’autres problèmes de santé, comme le cancer, le diabète ou une maladie rénale ; ou encore parmi des travailleurs de la santé qui sont en contact étroit avec les malades.

Plusieurs pays ont montré qu’il était possible de ralentir voire de stopper la transmission interpersonnelle de la COVID-19. Les principales mesures pour arrêter la transmission sont le dépistage actif des cas, les soins et l’isolement, la recherche... des contacts et la quarantaine. L’OMS a publié des recommandations pour la surveillance mondiale de la COVID-19, qui donnent la définition des cas et des contacts pour la déclaration à l’OMS. En plus de la recherche active des cas et du dépistage, il est essentiel d’intensifier les activités de surveillance pour déterminer si la COVID-19 se transmet au sein de la communauté et pour suivre l’évolution de la transmission communautaire.

Le présent document a été rédigé en s’appuyant sur divers documents existants de l’OMS, y compris les lignes directrices de l’OMS relatives au dépistage en laboratoire du MERS-CoV (1-11). À mesure que de nouvelles informations seront r...ecueillies concernant l’étiologie, les manifestations cliniques et la transmission de la maladie dans le groupe de patients atteints de maladie respiratoire à Wuhan, l’OMS continuera de suivre l’évolution de la situation et révisera si nécessaire les présentes recommandations.

Elle donne un aperçu de la prévention et du contrôle des infections (IPC) et de son intersection avec l'eau, l'assainissement et l'...hygiène (WASH), et explique comment le personnel peut contribuer à prévenir l'infection et sa propagation dans les écoles, que ce soit par contact entre humains ou avec des surfaces contaminées par le virus. La pandémie actuelle de COVID-19 entraîne des difficultés exceptionnelles et sans précédent pour les autorités compétentesa responsables des systèmes nationaux decontrôle de la sécurité sanitaire des alimentsb, qui sont tenues de continuer à assurer des fonct...ions et des activités de routine en se conformant aux règlements nationaux et aux recommandations internationales. Dans de nombreux pays, le personnel employé par les autorités compétentes travaille généralement à domicile car le télétravail est devenu la norme et toutes les réunions en présentiel sont annulées ou sont réorganisées sous forme de téléconférence. Il est difficile de maintenir, sans interruption, les activités de routine telles que l’inspection des entreprises du secteur alimentaire, la certification des exportations, le contrôle des denrées alimentaires importées, le suivi et la surveillance de la sécurité de la chaîne d’approvisionnement alimentaire, l’échantillonnage et l’analyse des aliments, la gestion des incidents alimentaires, les conseils sur la sécurité sanitaire des aliments et la réglementation relative aux denrées alimentaires à l’intention de l’industrie et la communication au grand public sur les questions relatives à la sécurité sanitaire des aliments.

Dans ce rapport, le Partnership for Evidence-Based Response to COVID-19 (PERC), un consortium d’organisations mondiales de santé publique et d’entreprises privées, fait la synthèse des résultats d’une enquête conduite du 29 mars au 17 avril 2020 dans 28 villes des États Membres de l’UA.... Ce rapport présente également les mesures épidémiologiques en matière de transmission de la maladie ainsi que les indicateurs relatives aux déplacements des populations et aux troubles civils. Dans l’ensemble, ces données donnent un aperçu unique des conditions initiales en Afrique pendant cette pandémie en évolution rapide.
