The European Space Agency’s “Ciseres: AI-powered satellites for rapid disaster response” project uses AI directly on satellites to detect disasters more quickly and provide relevant data within minutes. Instead of first analysing large amounts of data on the ground, the AI filters and compresses the most important information (e.g. regarding fires, floods or landslides) whilst still in orbit.
