The risk of communicable diseases remains a humanitarian concern with major health risks including cholera, acute watery diarrhea, bloody diarrhea, malaria and other vector borne diseases and conditions such as severe acute malnutrition.
Access to the affected districts is still conditioned due t...o the destruction of roads, the telecommunications network and the interruption of electricity.

Mozambique: Cyclone Idai Responding Organisations Presence (Completed and ongoing as of 18 April 2019)
The official death toll was 447 people as of 25 March, according to the Government.
• Nearly 129,000 people are sheltering in 143 collective sites across Sofala (more than 97,600 people), Manica (more than 14,800 people); Zambezia (more than 9,600 people); and Tete (more than 6,800 people).
...• The entire District of Nhamatanda in Sofala Province has been affected by Cyclone Idai and related floods, and nearly 15,000 people are sheltering in 14 sites across the district

Since the beginning of March 2019, Malawi has experienced flooding and sustained heavy rain caused by the Tropical Cyclone Idai weather system. According to IOM Malawi, 81,613 households (HH) have been affected across four districts in the south of the country, specifically Chikwawa (12,755 HH), Zom...ba (29,892 HH), Phalombe (22,848 HH) and Nsanje (16,118 HH).

The WHO health advisory provides guidance to countries on adapting all existing preparedness and response plans and procedures for natural hazards such as cyclones, tropical storms, tornadoes, floods, earthquakes and potential outbreaks of other diseases to their existing COVID-19 strategic prepared...ness and response plans. It advises countries to sustain all established public health and social measures to prevent and control COVID-19 while simultaneously preparing for responding to and effectively manage other disaster risks and events. It highlights WHO’s call for local, national, regional and global solidarity to support countries and communities with high levels of vulnerability to natural hazards during the COVID-19 pandemic.
