Papua New Guinea Animal Diseas...e Surveillance and Monitoring Program
more
|
Papua New Guinea, like many Pa...cific island countries and territories, is experiencing shortfalls in available veterinary and animal health auxiliary personnel. This project will facilitate the collection and reporting of signs of disease in the country's livestock by introducing simple checklists and training to livestock owners and animal health auxiliary staff in provincial departments, commercial livestock companies and non-government organisations and facilitate a range of technical and policy capacity building to build relationships and improve animal health surveillance.

SAMOA ECONOMIC REFORM PROGRAM
|
Samoa Economic Reform Program
|
The Samoa Economic Reform Prog...ram aims to support the Government of Samoa's fiscal consolidation as it recovers from the impacts of external shocks. It will also help to build Samoa's economic resilience against future shocks. In order to build economic resilience, a healthy and stable macroeconomic situation, strengthened Public Financial Management (PFM) systems and an open competitive private sector led economy are needed. This program will assist to achieve those requirements through the program centres on a Joint Policy Action Matrix (JPAM) which is a matrix of economic, structural and PFM reforms negotiated between officials from World Bank, ADB, New Zealand, Australian and the GoS. Australia and other development partners then incentivise specific policy actions drawn from the JPAM. The program and initiative is an extension of an activity under Samoa Governance and Economic Stability Initiative (INJ406) but has been now set out as a separate intiative to improve performance reporting. The total value of this investment is $5.5 million over 5 years, starting 2012-13.

SOLOMON ISLANDS URBAN WATER SU...PPLY

Solomon Islands Urban Water Su...pply
more
|
The Solomon Islands Water Auth...ority is the Solomon Islands Government-owned corporation responsible for water and sewerage services in urban areas of the country. By mid-2010 it was apparent that SIWA was in a state of near financial and operational collapse and the Solomon Islands Government replaced the SIWA Board. Since September 2011 AusAID has supported Solomon Water to implement its Short-term Recovery Strategy and Action Plan. Consistent with the Australia-Solomon Islands Partnership for Development, AusAID and Solomon Water will work together to improve health outcomes in Solomon Islands by increasing the proportion of the urban population with access to clean, reliable and sustainable water and sanitation services. Clean and reliable water supply will also contribute to improvements in the business environment and delivery of public services. Improving the Solomon Water's operational and financial performance will result in lower and more predictable costs to the Government. Solomon Water has developed a Two-year Development Plan in consultation with AusAID and other stakeholders. The objective of the Two Year Plan is that by 2015 Solomon Water provides improved levels of service to a larger proportion of the population in the existing service areas. Solomon Water has identified five outputs for the Two Year Plan as follow: improved levels of service for water supply; improved customer care and communications; strengthened financial management and administration; improved organisational capacity; and improved strategic planning. The total value of this initiative is $13.2 million over 4 years, starting 2011-12.

Australian Volunteers for Inte...rnational Development: Global Scope
more
|
The Australian Volunteers for ...International Development (AVID) program was launched by the Australian Government in May 2011. It was aimed at bringing together four separate and unaligned volunteer programs under a single Australian Government banner with unified program goal and objectives. The goal of the program is to contribute to sustainable economic growth and poverty reduction and advance Australia's reputation and relationships in partner countries. AVID programme makes a considerable contribution to the achievement of the Government's public diplomacy objectives. Volunteers promote a positive perception of Australia in the region, and promote a positive perception of the aid program domestically. AVID also contributes to development outcomes and links the Australian community with people and organisations in developing countries. The AVID programme seeks to: build understanding of Australia's international role and commitment to integration with the Indo-Pacific region; increase the number of volunteers working to improve the economic livelihoods of people in developing countries; and develop volunteer assignments in priority areas of governance, health, social infrastructure and services and education. Funding under this initiative assists Scope Global's ongoing costs for implementation of the AVID program including volunteer allowance, recruitment, travel, insurance, management and other associated administrative costs. The total value of this investment is $147.8 million over 7 years, starting 2011-12.
