more
|
Water and Sanitation Initiativ...e (WSI) Global Programming is an initiative to fund global and regional water, sanitation and hygiene programs delivered through multilateral partners. The purpose of the funding was to widen the geographical focus and impact of water, sanitation and hygiene programs; complement activities funded bilaterally; and to work with multilateral partners to improve aid effectiveness, build partner capacity and enhance knowledge management. In 2011-12 the initial global program was expanded with a 5 year program to provide funding to multilateral partners including the World Bank Water and Sanitation Program (WSP); the World Health Organization Water Quality Partnership for Health (WHO WQP); the Water Supply and Sanitation Collaborative Council (WSSCC); the UNICEF/WHO Joint Monitoring Program (JMP); and the Sanitation and Water for All Partnership (SWA). Funding provided to the partnerships under WSI has increased the impact, effectiveness and responsiveness of water, sanitation and hygiene activities in the Asia Pacific and Africa regions and has contributed globally to improved sector knowledge and monitoring. The program was further extended in 2016, out to 31 December 2019 and additional funding was provided to some partners. The total value of this investment is $111.5 million over 10 years, starting in 2009-10.

Pacific Women Shaping Pacific ...Development is a ten-year commitment by the Australian Government to support the Pacific to address gender inequality. The Fiji Country Plan is the Fiji-specific investments and strategies to address gender inequality in Fiji. The first four years of the Fiji Country Plan aims to support initiatives that will: increase women's economic empowerment; support women's organisations and coalitions for change; increase women's participation in leadership and decision-making; enhance knowledge and evidence to inform policy and practice; and improve gender outcomes within Australia's bilateral aid program to Fiji. Subsequent Fiji country plans will be developed over the life of the investment to respond to emerging gender issues in Fiji. The country plan will include an annual reflection process with implementing partners to maintain ongoing relevance of the investment. The country plan also aims to establish a local Fiji Women's Fund by the end of the life of the investment. The fund will be independently owned and managed and provide support to local women's NGOs and networks to advance gender equality in Fiji. The total value of this initiative is $26.3 million over 9 years, starting 2013-14.

Australia provides flexible, u...n-earmarked funding support to the World Food Programme (WFP) in Cox's Bazar, which is aligned with Australia's global partnership with WFP and the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade's (DFAT) Humanitarian Strategy. WFP's assistance in Cox's Bazar is provided through two distinct yet complementary channels: (1) Protracted Relief and Recovery Operations (PRRO): Food security and nutrition interventions to Rohingya camps in order to improve food security and nutrition; and (2) Enhancing Food Security and Nutrition (EFSN): Economic and social empowerment and food security support to ultra-poor households in three disadvantaged and refugee-hosting sub-districts. The total value of this investment is $13.2 million over 3 years, starting 2017-18.

|
The Australia-Cambodia Coopera...tion for Equitable Sustainable Services (ACCESS) was designed as a five-years program (2018-2023) with the total budget of AUD 25 million. Approval was sought for the first three years, commencing mid-2018 through to 30 June 2021, with the approved budget of AUD 15 million and there is a possibility to extend for a further two years. The overall goal of ACCESS is to improve sustainability of quality, inclusive services for people with a disability and those affected by gender-based violence. More specifically, it will focus on strengthening financial sustainability required to underpin quality services in both sectors, strengthen service delivery links between the RGC, NGOs and multilateral agencies at national and subnational levels, and support in the disabilities sector on strengthening economic inclusion for persons with disabilities, including stronger links between rehabilitation services and economic inclusion.

WATER AND SANITATION INITIATIV...E GLOBAL PROGRAMMING
more
|
Water and Sanitation Initiativ...e Global Programming
|
The World Bank's Water and Sanitation Program ceased in 2016 and has been replaced with the new Global Water Security and Sanitation Partnership which is integrated into the Bank's Global Water Practice. Complementing funding from other donors, Australia will contribute $26 million over five years to 2022 to this new partnership.

Australia provides significant... development assistance funding to global multilateral sectoral funds including the Global Partnership for Education, Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, and Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance. In order to make the best use of these investments and support Australia's participation in decision-making, strategic policy development and organisational reform for each of the funds, independent expert policy advice is sought from time-to-time. This helps ensure our approach is evidence-based and appropriate, making the best use of our influence.
