This project aims to improve s...exual, reproductive, maternal and newborn health (SRMNH) for women, adolescent girls and newborns in the five most populous districts of Inhambane Province, Mozambique. This is achieved by increasing community support and access to sexual, reproductive, maternal and newborn health care, training health workers, improving the capacity of health institutions, and promoting gender-responsive and evidence-based approaches for planning of cost-effective interventions. Project activities include: (1) mobilizing local leaders and community members in 20 communities on women's empowerment and SRMNH, (2) creating and supporting networks of trained community-based health practitioners with links to health facilities, (3) designing and delivering an in-hospital initial and continuing education program, (4) strengthening the management of training institutions and training new health practitioners, (5) building or rehabilitating and equipping clinics for maternal and reproductive health, and (6) disseminating gender-responsive information and research on SRMNH. Community members in Inhambane Province, mainly women and adolescent girls of child-bearing age (165,000) and newborns (23,000), are expected to benefit from increased use of higher quality health services. / Le projet vise l'amélioration de la santé sexuelle, génésique, maternelle et néonatale (SSRMN) des femmes, des adolescentes et des nouveau-nés au sein des cinq districts les plus peuplés de la province d'Inhambane au Mozambique. Cet objectif est atteint grâce à un meilleur appui et accès aux soins de santé sexuelle, génésique, maternelle et néonatale dans les communautés, à la formation des travailleurs de la santé, au renforcement des capacités des institutions de la santé et à la promotion des démarches fondées sur des données factuelles et qui tiennent compte des sexospécificités afin de planifier des interventions rentables. Parmi les activités du projet : 1) mobiliser les dirigeants locaux et la population au sein de 20 collectivités au sujet de l'autonomisation des femmes et de la SSGMN, 2) créer et appuyer des réseaux communautaires de professionnels de la santé en lien avec des établissements de soins de santé, 3) concevoir et offrir un programme d'éducation initiale à l'hôpital et d'éducation continue, 4) améliorer la gestion des institutions de formation et former de nouveaux professionnels de la santé 5) construire, remettre en état ou équiper de nouvelles cliniques de maternité pour la santé maternelle et génésique, 6) diffuser de l'information et des recherches sur la SSGMN qui tiennent compte des sexospécificités. Les membres des collectivités de la province d'Inhambane, en particulier les femmes et les adolescentes en âge d'enfanter (165 000) et les nouveau-nés (23 000) sont les bénéficiaires attendus d'un recours accru à des services de soins de santé améliorés.

This project aims to improve t...he sexual, reproductive, maternal and neonatal health of up to 38,000 direct beneficiaries, mostly women and adolescent girls, with inadequate access to appropriate health care services in three districts in Nampula Province. It also seeks to reduce child, early and forced marriage (CEFM) and early or unwanted pregnancy. Project activities include: (1) conducting radio programmes on sexual and reproductive health, gender equality, early pregnancy and CEFM, as well as mobilization events in 60 villages, (2) establishing women's, men's and adolescent girls' and boys' groups and clubs to promote knowledge of health issues and life skills, (3) working with community elders who facilitate traditional initiation rites for adolescents to help protect girls' sexual and reproductive rights, (4) training health care providers on gender-responsive and adolescent-friendly sexual and reproductive health, maternal and neonatal health services, and (5) conducting provincial coalition meetings to identify solutions to end child marriage and develop a provincial action plan on CEFM topics, including early pregnancy, sexual and reproductive health and rights, and maternal and neonatal health. / Le projet vise à améliorer la santé sexuelle, reproductive, maternelle et néonatale pour jusqu'à 38 000 bénéficiaires directs, principalement des femmes et des adolescentes, qui ont un accès insuffisant à des services adéquats de soins de santé dans trois districts de la province de Nampula. Il a également pour but de réduire les mariages d'enfants, les mariages précoces et les mariages forcés (MEPF) ainsi que les grossesses précoces ou non désirées. Parmi les activités de projet, notons : 1) émissions radiophoniques sur la santé sexuelle et reproductive, l'égalité des genres, les grossesses précoces et le MEPF, ainsi que des activités de mobilisation dans 60 villages, 2) la mise sur pied de groupes et de clubs de femmes, d'hommes, d'adolescentes et d'adolescents pour promouvoir les connaissances relatives aux problèmes de santé et aux compétences de vie, 3) le travail avec les aînés des collectivités qui organisent les rites d'initiation traditionnels pour les adolescents, afin de protéger les droits des filles en matière de santé sexuelle et reproductive, 4) la formation des fournisseurs de soins de santé sur la prestation de services de santé sexuelle et reproductive et de santé maternelle et néonatale qui sont adaptés au genre et aux adolescents, 5) l'organisation de rencontres de la coalition provinciale afin de déterminer des solutions en vue de mettre un terme aux mariages d'enfants et d'élaborer un plan d'action provincial sur les sujets touchant le MEPF, notamment les grossesses précoces, la santé sexuelle et reproductive et les droits connexes, et la santé maternelle et néonatale.

This component of the project ...«Advancing Quality Education and Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights-FASE» (P001664-001) is an extraordinary contribution to the joint donor Education Sector Support Fund (FASE) for the purposes of responding to impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on the national education system. FASE funds support the Ministry of Education and Human Development (MINEDH) to provide children and adults in Mozambique with access to quality education and literacy programs so that they learn and succeed in their education. This additional funding provides funds to the Ministry to implement specific activities of its COVID-19 Response Plan during the 2021 academic year (March 2021-January 2022). Activities of the Ministry's COVID-19 Response Plan include: 1) sensitizing school communities on COVID-19 symptoms, forms of transmission and prevention and control measures, 2) adjusting teaching and learning methods to enable schooling to continue (teacher training on using alternate methods, use of radio, television, online, distance programs, providing psychosocial and violence prevention programs), 3) promoting safe return to physical presence classes through assuring access to water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) to meet both COVID-19 preventative measures and the needs of girls and children with special needs. / Cette composante du projet «Stimuler une éducation de qualité et la santé et les droits sexuels et reproductifs - FASE COVID-19» (P001664-001) est une contribution extraordinaire au Fonds commun d'appui au secteur de l'éducation (FASE) pour répondre aux impacts du COVID-19 pandémie sur le système éducatif national. Les fonds FASE soutiennent le ministère de l'Éducation et du Développement humain (MINEDH) pour permettre aux enfants et aux adultes du Mozambique d'accéder à des programmes d'éducation et d'alphabétisation de qualité afin qu'ils apprennent et réussissent dans leur éducation. Ce financement supplémentaire fournit des fonds au ministère pour mettre en œuvre des activités spécifiques de son plan d'intervention COVID-19 au cours de l'année universitaire 2021 (mars 2021-janvier 2022).

This project supports activiti...es that respond to the COVID-19 pandemic in Cabo Delgado province in Mozambique. This project focuses on ensuring community engagement and social mobilization, distributing essential commodities, and supporting the Ministry of Health's coordination efforts in the pandemic response. Project activities include: (1) producing and disseminating COVID-19 prevention material through digital, radio and television programs, (2) supporting the Ministry of Health's COVID-19 hotline, (3) supporting women's rights networks in target districts to monitor gender-based violence in the COVID-19 context and generate data on its economic and care load impact, (4) procuring and distributing materials for COVID-19 sample collection (such as gloves, cotton swabs, disinfectant, etc.), laboratory reagents and kit accessories, PPE for health care workers, triple packs for transporting COVID-19 samples, and masks for some of the most vulnerable communities in target districts, and (5) supporting costs related to deploying rapid Ministry of Health response teams to Cabo Delgado province to conduct COVID-19 epidemiological surveillance. / Ce projet appuie des activités qui répondent à la pandémie de COVID-19 à Cabo Delgado, au Mozambique. Ce projet vise à assurer l'engagement communautaire et la mobilisation sociale, à distribuer les produits essentiels et à appuyer les efforts de coordination du ministère de la Santé dans la réponse à la pandémie. Les activités de ce projet comprennent : 1) la production et la diffusion du matériel de prévention de la COVID-19 au moyen d'émissions numériques, radiophoniques et télévisées, 2) le soutien de la ligne d'assistance COVID-19 du ministère de la Santé, 3) le soutien aux réseaux de défense des droits des femmes dans les districts cibles pour surveiller la violence fondée sur le genre dans le contexte de la COVID-19 et pour produire des données sur son impact économique et sur sa charge de soins, 4) l'acquisition et la distribution de matériel pour la collecte d'échantillons de la COVID-19 (gants, coton-tige, désinfectant, etc.), de réactifs de laboratoire et d'accessoires de trousse, d'équipement de protection individuelle pour les travailleurs de la santé, d'emballages triples pour le transport d'échantillons de COVID-19 et de masques pour certaines des communautés les plus vulnérables dans les districts cibles, 5) le soutien aux coûts d'appui liés au déploiement rapide d'équipes d'intervention du ministère de la Santé dans la province de Cabo Delgado pour effectuer la surveillance épidémiologique de la COVID-19.

The project aims to improve eq...ual learning outcomes for girls and boys at the primary school level in Ghana, Mozambique and Rwanda. Project activities include: (1) integrating gender-responsive play-based learning into teaching practices, (2) engaging parents and caregivers in addressing the gender-specific learning needs of girls and boys, including at-risk children, and (3) increasing the integration of gender-responsive play-based learning techniques in teacher training (pre-service and in-service). Project beneficiaries include 221,486 children (of which 109,057 are girls), 23,228 teachers (of which 1,682 are women), and 744,974 community members, including mothers, fathers and caregivers in all three countries. The project also supports Play Your Part, an initiative that aims to reach more than 50,000 students aged 8-14 years, in 200 schools across Canada every year. The project builds on the achievements and lessons learned from Right To Play's project Play for Advancement of Quality Education (project number D000893001), an eight country, two-and-a-half-year (2015-2017) initiative. A cost increase amendment was provided to the Gender-Responsive Education and Transformation project in response to address the education needs related to the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic in Ghana, Mozambique and Rwanda. The new funding will aim to support the ministries of education to ensure that schools are able to deliver quality education during COVID-19 related school closures, while also preparing children, teachers and schools for re-opening. / Le projet vise à améliorer l'égalité des résultats scolaires pour les filles et les garçons au niveau primaire au Ghana, au Mozambique et au Rwanda. Les activités du projet comprennent : 1) l'intégration de l'apprentissage par le jeu tenant compte du genre dans les pratiques d'enseignement , 2) l'engagement des parents et des prestataires de soins à répondre aux besoins d'apprentissage spécifiques des filles et des garçons, y compris les enfants à risque , 3) l'intégration accrue des techniques d'apprentissage par le jeu tenant compte du genre dans la formation pédagogique (formations pré-entrée en fonction des futurs enseignants et en cours de fonction). Les bénéficiaires du projet comprennent 221 486 enfants (dont 109 057 filles), 23 228 enseignants (dont 1 682 femmes) et 744 974 membres de la communauté, dont des mères, des pères et autres prestataires de soins dans les trois pays. Le projet appuie également l'initiative « Jouez votre rôle », qui vise à rejoindre chaque année plus de 50 000 élèves âgés de 8 à 14 ans dans 200 écoles du Canada. Le projet s'appuie sur les réalisations et les leçons tirés de l'initiative « Play for Advancement of Quality Education », numéro de projet D000893001, une initiative menée dans huit pays sur deux ans et demi (2015-2017).

The Empowerment & Equality of ...Women & Girls project focuses on issues related to strategic advocacy, mass-media, community radio and other community-based communication as critical intervention points for women to increase their access to information, influence social norms and change individual behaviors that contribute to sustain or reinforce gender inequality. The project proposes to drive behavioural and social change for gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls through the use of mass media, community radio stations and video production groups. The project would achieve this through two entry points: 1) Working with mainstream media outlets and civil society to advocate for gender equality and women's empowerment among decision-makers, leaders and journalists, and 2) Working with radio stations and video production groups at the community level to enable women, girls, men and boys to voice their opinions about gender equality and promote social change. In its first year of operation, the project will include activities to address the challenges posed by COVID-19 through the dissemination of accurate information on the virus from a gender perspective to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.

This project works to safeguar...d the provision of critical reproductive, maternal, newborn and child health services for women and girls. This project supports national health system efforts in the communities where they are working to help prevent and mitigate the negative consequences of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic in Bangladesh, Kenya, Myanmar, and Tanzania. Project activities include: (1) promoting preventive measures to slow and stop the spread of COVID-19 in target communities, (2) procuring and distributing hygiene materials to vulnerable households and key services providers/institutions for prevention of COVID-19, (3) providing training and equipping public health systems and service providers to deliver gender-responsive COVID-19 prevention, detection, treatment and surveillance services, and (4) facilitating the protection of essential health, nutrition and sexual reproductive health and rights services, including sexual gender-based violence, and micronutrient powder supplementation. This project expects to provide support to 6,312,851 people, of which 1,946,048 are women and adolescent girls in Bangladesh, Kenya, Myanmar and Tanzania. / Ce projet contribue au maintien des services de santé génésique, maternelle, néonatale et infantile essentiels pour les femmes et les filles. Il apporte un soutien aux systèmes de santé nationaux au Bangladesh, au Kenya, au Myanmar et en Tanzanie, tout particulièrement dans les communautés où les autorités sanitaires s'emploient à prévenir et à atténuer les répercussions de la pandémie. March 2020 – In response to ...the COVID19 global pandemic, the United Nations launched the Global Humanitarian Response Plan (GHRP) on 25 March 2020. The GHRP seeks to respond to the direct public health and immediate humanitarian consequences of the pandemic. It has three strategic priorities: 1) containing the spread of the pandemic, 2) decreasing the deterioration of human assets and rights, social cohesion and livelihoods, and 3) protecting, assisting and advocating for refugees, internally displaced people, migrants and host communities particularly vulnerable to the pandemic. The GHRP is a joint and collective effort among all stakeholders, facilitated at the global level by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA). As leader of the Inter-agency Steering Committee, OCHA works to oversee the global level coordination, and liaise with other stakeholders, such as the UN Crisis Management Team, as needed. OCHA's primary mandate is to oversee the coordination of international humanitarian responses, in partnership with national and international actors, in order to achieve more coherent and effective humanitarian action. This grant represents Canada's support to OCHA in Ethiopia, Myanmar, Nigeria, Ukraine and Pakistan.. With the support of Canada and other donors, OCHA fulfills its mandate by: (1) strengthening humanitarian leadership, (2) establishing and overseeing coordination systems, (3) monitoring and reporting on humanitarian situations, (4) advocating on behalf of affected people, (5) supporting the assessment and prioritization of humanitarian needs and strategic planning, (6) promoting emergency preparedness, and (7) mobilizing funding for humanitarian assistance. / Mars 2020 – En réponse à la pandémie mondiale de coronavirus (COVID-19), les Nations Unies ont lancé un plan de réponse humanitaire mondial le 25 mars 2020. Ce plan vise à répondre aux conséquences directes de la pandémie sur la santé publique et l'aide humanitaire immédiate. Les trois priorités stratégiques du plan sont les suivantes : 1) contenir la progression de la pandémie, 2) limiter la détérioration du capital humain, de la situation des droits de la personne, de la cohésion sociale et des moyens de subsistance, et 3) protéger et aider les réfugiés, les personnes déplacées à l'intérieur de leur pays, les migrants et les collectivités d'accueil, en particulier les plus vulnérables face à la pandémie, ainsi que défendre leurs intérêts. This project aims to improve e...quitable and sustainable livelihoods for women and men smallholder farmers in Nicaragua's Dry Corridor, with a particular focus on the empowerment of women farmers, to ensure that they can withstand economic and climate shocks. This project uses a women's economic empowerment approach. This project supports smallholder farmers to become empowered and resilient agricultural producers, capable of adapting to climate change and supplying products of high quality and in quantities to access formal markets. This project also works to improve food security and address impacts of coronavirus (COVID-19) on poor rural families. / Ce projet vise à améliorer les moyens de subsistance équitables et durables des petits producteurs agricoles, en mettant un accent particulier sur l'autonomisation des femmes productrices, dans le corridor sec du Nicaragua pour qu'ils puissent résister aux chocs économiques et climatiques. Le projet utilise une approche d'autonomisation économique des femmes. Le projet aide les petits agriculteurs à devenir des producteurs agricoles habilités et résilients, capables de s'adapter au changement climatique et de fournir des produits de haute qualité et en quantité suffisante pour accéder aux marchés officiels. The COVID19 pandemic poses a t...hreat to gains made in the SHOW project related to gender transformative MNCH and SRHR outcomes in the countries and communities where we operate. In order to both protect those important, measurable results and to prevent the most severe impacts of COVID19, Plan Canada proposes to i) increase demand for COVID19 related messages and prevention measures, and ongoing demand for MNCH/SRHR services, ii) support health system strengthening for COVID19 response within broader C19 national plans and continuity of MNCH/SRH services during the pandemic and post pandemic periods, iii) enhance community and government access to reliable, timely and effective use of data in the response to COVID19, and iv) undertake public engagement to inform Canadians on the COVID19 response in developing countries and better understand that the response must be global in nature.

March 2020 - A new coronavirus... emerged in Wuhan City in the Hubei Province of China. On January 30th, 2020, the World Health Organization declared the outbreak a Public Health Emergency of International Concern, after human-to-human transmission caused the disease to spread globally. On March 11th, 2020, the outbreak was officially declared a pandemic. The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) is coordinating with all National Societies, especially those with active cases, to support with monitoring, scenario planning, and risk analysis in countries affected by the outbreak. With GAC's support, National Societies are working to save lives and help reduce the vulnerability of communities and people affected by the pandemic through a broad spectrum of humanitarian assistance activities. Project activities include: (1) providing ongoing monitoring and analysis of regional trends and risks, particularly amongst migrant and displaced populations, (2) conducting household visits to determine needs of vulnerable people and provide basic medical assistance, and (3) distributing food, hygiene products, and medicines to vulnerable people, including people in isolation.

The World Health Organization ...(WHO) works with countries and partners to prepare for, prevent, respond to, and recover from, hazards that create health emergencies, including disasters, disease outbreaks, and conflicts. In early 2020, the WHO and Chinese authorities identified a new coronavirus in Wuhan City, Hubei Province in the People's Republic of China. The WHO and its partners are working with Chinese authorities and global experts to identify populations most at risk, the transmission of the disease, and the most effective ways to detect, interrupt, and contain human?to?human transmission. On January 30, 2020, the WHO declared the outbreak in the China, a Public Health Emergency of International Concern, indicating that the outbreak requires a more robust coordinated international response. The WHO released its Strategic Preparedness and Response Plan (February to April 2020) outlining its strategy to scale-up the response in order to stop further spread of the disease. With GAC's support, WHO's emergency operations work to help and control the spread of the coronavirus and support the international response to the outbreak. Project activities include: (1) deploying experts to assess outbreak threat, (2) delivering essential medicines, supplies and equipment, (3) training health personnel, and (4) strengthening health sector coordination and health information systems. / L'Organisation mondiale de la santé (OMS) travaille avec des pays et des partenaires pour se préparer aux dangers qui créent des urgences sanitaires, notamment les catastrophes, les épidémies et les conflits, et les prévenir, y répondre et se rétablir par la suite. March 2020 - In response to th...e coronavirus (COVID-19) global pandemic, the United Nations launched the Global Humanitarian Response Plan (GHRP) on March 25th, 2020. The GHRP seeks to respond to the direct public health and immediate humanitarian consequences of the pandemic. The GHRP's three strategic priorities include: (1) containing the spread of the pandemic, (2) decreasing the deterioration of human assets and rights, social cohesion and livelihoods, and (3) protecting, assisting and advocating for refugees, internally displaced people, migrants and host communities particularly vulnerable to the pandemic. With the support of GAC and other donors, the UNHCR provides assistance and protection to refugees, internally displaced persons and other persons of concern globally. Project activities include: (1) working with Ministries of Health in affected countries and the WHO, to ensure refugees and other displaced people are included in national surveillance, response planning, and activities for COVID-19, (2) establishing protection monitoring and reporting networks in collaboration with governments and partners to mitigate potential protection risks for refugees and displaced people, including restriction to access to territory and right to seek asylum, (3) increasing provision of primary and secondary health care, infection prevention in health facilities, clean water and soap, and community outreach on hygiene best practices, and (4) ensuring refugees, their host communities and persons of concern have access to timely, relevant and accurate information in applicable language(s), and counter the spread of misinformation. / Mars 2020 – En réponse à la pandémie mondiale de coronavirus (COVID-19), les Nations Unies ont lancé un plan de réponse humanitaire mondial le 25 mars 2020. Ce plan vise à répondre aux conséquences directes de la pandémie sur la santé publique et l'aide humanitaire immédiate. Les trois priorités stratégiques du plan sont les suivantes : 1) contenir la progression de la pandémie, 2) limiter la détérioration du capital humain, de la situation des droits de la personne, de la cohésion sociale et des moyens de subsistance, et 3) protéger et aider les réfugiés, les personnes déplacées à l'intérieur de leur pays, les migrants et les collectivités d'accueil, en particulier les plus vulnérables face à la pandémie, ainsi que défendre leurs intérêts. The International Organization for Migration (IOM) has been monitoring the effects of the COVID-19 outbreak on vulnerable populations, including internally displaced persons (IDPs), refugees, migrants, returnees, and host communities. As part of the GHRP, IOM is responding to new and additional needs, which have emerged as a result of the COVID-19 outbreak in humanitarian situations, including facilitating access to essential relief items and adequate living conditions for crisis-affected populations. With the support of GAC and other donors, IOM is providing assistance in multiple sectors, including health, camp coordination and camp management, displacement tracking, protection, shelter, emergency non-food items, and water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) services. Project activities include: (1) providing life-saving primary health care and critical medical supplies, (2) providing WASH services in health-care facilities and points of entry, (3) enhancing national capacity for detection, (4) strengthening Community Event-Based Surveillance including by linking mobility information to surveillance data, particularly among border communities to identify high-risk transmission mobility corridors/areas, (5) ensuring the continuation of services, including primary health care and WASH facilities, (6) strengthening the access to social networks and livelihoods for migrants, IDPs, and other vulnerable populations, (7) providing assistance to stranded migrants, (8) strengthening existing protection mechanisms and social services to identify, support and refer people in need of care or protection, and (9) disseminating key messages on service delivery, health and hygiene to migrants, IDPs and other vulnerable populations. / Avril 2020 - En réponse à la pandémie mondiale de coronavirus (COVID-19), les Nations Unies ont lancé un plan de réponse humanitaire mondial le 25 mars 2020. With the support of GAC and other donors, IOM is providing assistance in multiple sectors, including health, camp coordination and camp management, displacement tracking, protection, shelter, emergency non-food items, and water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) services. Project activities include: (1) providing life-saving primary health care and critical medical supplies, (2) providing WASH services in health-care facilities and points of entry, (3) enhancing national capacity for detection, (4) strengthening Community Event-Based Surveillance including by linking mobility information to surveillance data, particularly among border communities to identify high-risk transmission mobility corridors/areas, (5) ensuring the continuation of services, including primary health care and WASH facilities, (6) strengthening the access to social networks and livelihoods for migrants, IDPs, and other vulnerable populations, (7) providing assistance to stranded migrants, (8) strengthening existing protection mechanisms and social services to identify, support and refer people in need of care or protection, and (9) disseminating key messages on service delivery, health and hygiene to migrants, IDPs and other vulnerable populations. / Avril 2020 - En réponse à la pandémie mondiale de coronavirus (COVID-19), les Nations Unies ont lancé un plan de réponse humanitaire mondial le 25 mars 2020. March 2020 - In response to th...e coronavirus (COVID-19) global pandemic, the United Nations launched the Global Humanitarian Response Plan (GHRP) on March 25th, 2020. The GHRP seeks to respond to the direct public health and immediate humanitarian consequences of the pandemic. The GHRP's three strategic priorities include: (1) containing the spread of the pandemic, (2) decreasing the deterioration of human assets and rights, social cohesion, and livelihoods, and (3) protecting, assisting, and advocating for refugees, internally displaced people, migrants, and host communities, particularly those who are most vulnerable to the pandemic. This project works to provide ...funding to local CSOs in fragile and conflict-affected states, who are actively engaged in delivering key resources and services to address the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. COVID-19 outbreaks have had significant, negative impacts in many countries. These impacts have been amplified in fragile and conflict-affected contexts where conflict drivers are further exacerbated. Local CSOs around the world are playing key roles in supporting efforts to respond to, and stem the spread of COVID-19. Project activities include: (1) persuading populations to follow public health directives, (2) advocating for specific needs for women and girls in response to COVID-19, and (3) supporting women who constitute 70% of the workers and care givers in the health and social sector globally, and are on the frontlines of the response. / Ce projet vise à fournir des fonds aux OSC dans un environnement précaire ou touché par un conflit, qui participent activement à la prestation de services et de ressources clés en réponse à la pandémie de coronavirus (COVID-19). Les épidémies de COVID-19 ont eu des répercussions négatives importantes dans de nombreux pays. Ces impacts ont été amplifiés dans les contextes fragiles et touchés par des conflits, où les facteurs de conflit sont encore exacerbés. In order to respond to the COV...ID-19 pandemic, the proposed amendment will enable the Organization to implement a hygiene behaviour change response aimed at slowing the transmission of the virus. The COVID-19 response efforts of HerWASH include promotion and awareness of improved hygiene behaviour in healthcare facilities and communities and of good menstrual hygiene practices among women and girls in support of the project's SRHR goals and results. This project aims to improve the sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) of women and adolescent girls in Burkina Faso, Liberia, Pakistan and Sierra Leone, through menstrual health and hygiene interventions. Poor menstrual health and hygiene exacts a tremendous human and financial toll. A growing body of global research links menstruation with school absenteeism, limited mobility, and lost workplace productivity. Project activities include: (1) infrastructure work to refurbish latrines so that they are secure, accessible and equipped to serve the needs of women and girls for menstrual hygiene management (including private space with adequate water supply for washing and disposal facilities for sanitary pads) at schools, healthcare facilities and in communities, (2) improving and/or developing supply chains for menstrual hygiene products that present economic opportunities to engage local business, women entrepreneurs and youth-led groups, and (3) policy interventions to examine national and district plans, policies and budgets in order to provide adequate consideration of the menstrual health and hygiene needs of women and adolescent girls in schools, communities and healthcare centers. This project is expected to directly benefit 91,450 people, of which 72% are women, including youth under the age of 19. The project is led by WaterAid Canada, in partnership with Canada World Youth and Simavi. / Afin de répondre à la pandémie COVID-19, la modification proposée permettra à l'Organisation de mettre en œuvre une réponse de changement de comportement en matière d'hygiène visant à ralentir la transmission du virus. The GHRP is a joint and collective effort among all stakeholders, facilitated at the global level by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA). As leader of the Inter-agency Steering Committee, OCHA works to oversee the global level coordination, and liaise with other stakeholders, such as the UN Crisis Management Team, as needed. OCHA's primary mandate is to oversee the coordination of international humanitarian responses, in partnership with national and international actors, in order to achieve more coherent and effective humanitarian action. This grant represents Canada's support to OCHA in Ethiopia, Myanmar, Nigeria, Ukraine and Pakistan.. This project works to respond ...to the threat of coronavirus (COVID-19) in Cambodia and the Philippines, by reducing or preventing local COVID-19 transmission and the disproportionate gender effects of COVID-19 on women and girls at the household, community, and structural level in Cambodia and the Philippines. Project activities include: (1) providing support to individuals, especially women and girls, to gain access and control over the practical resources necessary for their health and well-being during the pandemic, such as personal protective equipment, psychosocial support, food and financial support kits, and materials for menstrual hygiene for those in quarantine or isolation, (2) supporting vulnerable households who have lost their livelihoods, through counseling and mediation assistance to extend loans and delay repayment schedules, as well as provide supports to assist with continuity of farming and fishing, and provide targeted cash transfers and/or nutritional food assistance kits, (3) supporting the continuity of life saving health services, such as sexual reproductive health and rights and gender-based violence services and family care needs, (4) raising public awareness with local partners on matters related to COVID-19, sexual and reproductive health, and gender-based violence via radio, information education and communication materials, social media, SMS blasts and loudspeaker, and (5) building the capacity of institutions to reduce transmission and respond to the gender specific needs of those impacted by the pandemic. This project expects to reach 106,535 people. This project also provides border quarantine support, which contributes to protecting an estimated total population of 3,005,018 people. / Ce projet vise à répondre à la menace du coronavirus (COVID-19) au Cambodge et aux Philippines en réduisant ou en prévenant la transmission locale de la COVID-19 et les effets disproportionnés de la COVID-19 sur les femmes et les filles au foyer, dans la communauté et sur le plan structurel. The program will respond to CO...VID-19 while ensuring that women and girls continue to have access to SRH services, safe deliveries, pre and post-natal care, and contraceptive access. COVID-19 response activities include: scale up WASH interventions, including distribution of soap and hand sanitizer, distribute hygiene and safety kits to health workers and community leaders, procure personal protective equipment for clinical staff and erect temporary tents to allow for covered physical distancing at clinics, tele-coach/tele-monitor CHWs to deliver information and educate the community in a safe, distanced manner, educate the community on personal protective measures, physical distancing and home isolation via megaphone, radio and distanced CHW interventions. This initiative aims to reduce illness and death among women of reproductive age, newborns and children under five by working with local health authorities.. Activities include: (1) training women and men health workers and traditional birth attendants to dispense accurate advice on ante and post-natal care, promote healthy habits, provide basic health care, identify high risk pregnancies and make referrals to government-run medical facilities, (2) equipping a select number of health centers with essential equipment to reduce infection, monitor vital signs of fetuses and facilitate night time deliveries, (3) constructing dispensaries, nurses' houses and expectant mothers' houses to encourage facility based delivery, (4) providing rapid and affordable transport to medical facilities, (5) improving access to clean water and nutritious food, and (6) mobilizing and equipping communities and village leaders for sustainability of MNCH and gender results. This initiative is expected to contribute directly to the improved health and nutrition of approximately 2 million women, men and children and in addition, around 1 million individuals. The project is implemented with local partners in each country: VHW in Burundi, EHALE in Mozambique, Inshuti Mu Buzima (Partners in Health) in Rwanda, and the Anglican Diocese of Masasi in Tanzania. / Le programme répondra à COVID-19 tout en veillant à ce que les femmes et les filles continuent d'avoir accès aux services de SSR, aux accouchements en toute sécurité, aux soins prénatals et postnatals et à l'accès aux contraceptifs. The project aims to improve eq...ual learning outcomes for girls and boys at the primary school level in Ghana, Mozambique and Rwanda. Project activities include: (1) integrating gender-responsive play-based learning into teaching practices, (2) engaging parents and caregivers in addressing the gender-specific learning needs of girls and boys, including at-risk children, and (3) increasing the integration of gender-responsive play-based learning techniques in teacher training (pre-service and in-service). Project beneficiaries include 221,486 children (of which 109,057 are girls), 23,228 teachers (of which 1,682 are women), and 744,974 community members, including mothers, fathers and caregivers in all three countries. The project also supports Play Your Part, an initiative that aims to reach more than 50,000 students aged 8-14 years, in 200 schools across Canada every year. The project builds on the achievements and lessons learned from Right To Play's project Play for Advancement of Quality Education (project number D000893001), an eight country, two-and-a-half-year (2015-2017) initiative. A cost increase amendment was provided to the Gender-Responsive Education and Transformation project in response to address the education needs related to the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic in Ghana, Mozambique and Rwanda. The new funding will aim to support the ministries of education to ensure that schools are able to deliver quality education during COVID-19 related school closures, while also preparing children, teachers and schools for re-opening. / Le projet vise à améliorer l'égalité des résultats scolaires pour les filles et les garçons au niveau primaire au Ghana, au Mozambique et au Rwanda. This project supports the prev...iously funded project, Girls' Education for a Better Future in the Great Lakes Region (EDUFAM), to respond to issues that have been further exacerbated by the coronavirus (COVID-19) crisis in Burundi, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), and Rwanda. These activities work to particularly protect girls and adolescent girls from violence and exploitation, and ensure that they can continue in their education, through mitigating additional barriers caused by COVID-19. Project activities include: (1) replicating and disseminating official messages from governments and the World Health Organization to target communities, (2) disseminating awareness-raising messages to parents and students, especially on the radio, particularly to girls and adolescent girls on the importance of following national distance learning programs, (3) providing teaching materials to identified girls and adolescents girls, and schools, (4) assessing the impacts of COVID-19 on the schooling of project beneficiaries and on the prevalence of sexual gender based violence (SGBV) in the targeted communities, (5) consulting with and strengthening education stakeholders to prepare for the reopening of schools, and (6) raising awareness and mobilizing communities on the prevention and care of SGBV, especially for girls and adolescent girls who have left school, as well as on the reintegration of children in school, in particular the refugee, displaced, returning and disabled girls and adolescents girls. / Ce projet soutient le projet précédemment financé, « Éducation des filles pour un avenir meilleur dans la région des Grands Lacs » (ÉDUFAM), pour répondre aux problèmes qui ont été exacerbés par la crise du coronavirus (COVID-19) au Burundi, en République démocratique du Congo (RDC) et au Rwanda. The Canada Fund for Local Init...iatives (CFLI) is designed to support small projects proposed and implemented by local organizations in Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, Somalia, and Uganda. In providing funding for small projects that offer direct social, economic, or technical assistance to local populations, the CFLI contributes to the overall goal of reducing poverty. / Le Fonds canadien d'initiatives locales (FCIL) vise à appuyer des petits projets proposés et mis en oeuvre par des organisations locales en Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, Somalie et Ouganda. Les projets financés par le FCIL offrent de l'aide (sociale, économique ou technique) directement à la population locale. Le FCIL contribue ainsi aux objectifs de réduction de la pauvreté.

This project aims to enhance c...ommunity resilience, and mainstream a comprehensive disaster management approach in three Caribbean countries, namely Belize, Saint Vincent, and the Grenadines and Suriname. The project aims to achieve this through supporting targeted vulnerable communities in organizing themselves, and preparing for natural disasters and crises. Also by strengthening comprehensive disaster management at the national and local levels. Project activities include: (1) assessment of the current level of knowledge in disaster preparedness, 2) training in basic skills to deal with disasters and risks, and 3) training, knowledge sharing, and workshops on leadership in disaster risk management. / Ce projet vise à renforcer la résilience des communautés et à intégrer une approche globale de gestion des catastrophes dans trois pays des Caraïbes, à savoir le Belize, Saint-Vincent, les Grenadines et le Suriname. Le projet vise à atteindre cet objectif en aidant les communautés vulnérables ciblées à s'organiser et à se préparer aux catastrophes naturelles et aux crises. Il vise également à renforcer la gestion globale des catastrophes aux niveaux national et local. Les activités du projet comprennent : 1) évaluation du niveau actuel des connaissances en matière de préparation aux catastrophes , 2) formation aux compétences de base pour faire face aux catastrophes et aux risques , et 3) formation, partage des connaissances et ateliers sur le leadership en matière de gestion des risques de catastrophes.
