Through a five-year Control of... Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTD) Cooperative Agreement to administer the END in Africa programs, FHI 360 works closely with its END program partners, sub grantees and national ministries of health to foster integration of national NTD control. Through the work of its END in Africa program, FHI 360 is advancing USAIDs goal of contributing to the global elimination of NTD by reducing prevalence of seven diseaseslymphatic filariasis (elephantiasis), onchocerciasis (river blindness), schistosomiasis (snail fever), trachoma (blinding eye infection) and three soil-transmitted helminths (hookworm, roundworm, and whipworm).

ENVISION
|
ENVISION is a five-year projec...t aimed at providing assistance to national neglected tropical disease (NTD) control programs for the control and elimination of seven targeted NTDs: lymphatic filariasis, onchocerciasis, schistosomiasis, three soil-transmitted helminths (roundworm, hookworm, whipworm) and trachoma. ENVISIONs goal is to contribute to the global goal of reducing the burden of targeted NTDs so that they are no longer a public health problem.

DELIVERING A MACROFILARICIDE T...O ADDRESS URGENT TREATMENT NEEDS OF PATIENTS SUFFERING FROM ONCHOCERCIASIS AND LYMPHATIC FILARIASIS (DNDI)

|
Delivering a Macrofilaricide t...o Address Urgent Treatment Needs of Patients Suffering from Onchocerciasis and Lymphatic Filariasis (DNDi)
more
|
Filarial diseases cover three ...debilitating infectious diseases caused by parasitic worms: onchocerciasis (river blindness), lymphatic filariasis (LF, or elephantiasis), and loiasis (African eye worm, or Loa loa). More than 1 billion of the worlds poorest people are at risk and an estimated 128 million people suffer from LF; 47 million with onchocerciasis; and unknown numbers with loiasis. Programs for the treatment and control of filarial diseases through mass drug administration (MDA) have been in place for over 20 years but have only met partial success. Current drug treatments use microfilaricides, killing only the larvae that mature by passage through an insect vector. While this is effective in reducing transmission treatment, it must be repeated at regular intervals for the life of the adult worm (up to 17 years), making implementation extremely difficult in endemic countries. There is an urgent need for a macrofilaricide, targeting adult worms that can be used for onchocerciasis and LF, particularly in Loa loa co-endemic areas. The purpose of this GDA is to develop a macrofilaricide for use in individual case management and, after appropriate testing, as an alternative preventive treatment in MDA programs.

Act to End NTDs : East builds ...on the successes achieved through previous Agency investments to expand and strengthen national integrated NTD programs to achieve the WHO 2020 NTD goals. This five-year award, managed by RTI International, is intended to support disease-endemic countries to control and/or eliminate NTDs with proven, cost-effective public health interventions to treat and measure treatment impact against seven NTDs: lymphatic filariasis, blinding trachoma, onchocerciasis, schistosomiasis, and three intestinal worms known as soil-transmitted helminths. In addition to continued support toward global disease elimination and control goals, Act to End NTDs : East will focus on helping countries on their journey to self-reliance by supporting them to integrate NTD programs into the broader national health systems and to strengthen technical, operation and financial capacity to operate NTD programs without U.S. foreign assistance funding. This centrally managed agreement will support Bangladesh, DRC, Ethiopia, Haiti, Indonesia, Laos, Mozambique, Nepal, Nigeria, Philippines, Tanzania, Uganda, and Vietnam.

Direct Aid Program: Small Gran...ts Program 2017-18
more
|
The Direct Aid Program (DAP) i...s a small-grants scheme administered by the Department of Foreign Affairs & Trade (DFAT) through Australia's diplomatic posts in developing countries. DAP's objective is to advance developmental outcomes in ODA-eligible countries with projects primarily focussed on practical and tangible results. In 2017-18 Australia supported over 800 DAP projects in around 110 countries. DAP supports local community efforts towards poverty reduction and engages a wide range of partners including non-government organisations, community groups, schools, health facilities and local governments. Projects helped people with disabilities, provided small-scale infrastructure, encouraged community income generation and improved people's health. The total value of this multi-country initiative is $22 million expensed over the 2017-18 financial year.
