Diabetes is an increasingly prevalent yet under-recognised health crisis in Africa, driven by demographic and socioeconomic transitions. In 2021, 24 million adults in the region were living with diabetes, and this figure is expected to increase by 129% by 2045.
In 2015, 23.7% of Kenyan adults aged 18–69 — around 5.7 million people — had hypertension. However, only 0.2 million of these individuals had their condition under control. Awareness and treatment rates remain low.
Leptospirosis is an infectious disease caused by pathogenic organisms belonging to the genus Leptospira, that are transmitted directly or indirectly from animals to humans. Leptospirosis is a major direct zoonosis. Humanto-human transmission occurs only very rarely.
