A new story book that aims to help children understand and come to terms with COVID-19 has been produced
With the help of a fantasy creature, Ario, “My Hero is You, How kids can fight COVID-19!” explains how children can protect themselves, their families and friends from coronavirus and how to... manage difficult emotions when confronted with a new and rapidly changing reality.

The book – aimed primarily at children aged 6-11 years old – is a project of the Inter-Agency Standing Committee Reference Group on Mental Health and Psychosocial Support in Emergency Settings, a unique collaboration of United Nations agencies, national and international nongovernmental organizations and international agencies providing mental health and psychosocial support in emergency settings.

This book was a project developed by the Inter-Agency Standing Committee Reference Group on Mental Health and Psychosocial Support in Emergency Settings (IASC MHPSS RG). The project was supported by global, regional and country based experts from Member Agencies of the IASC MHPSS RG, in addition to ...parents, caregivers, teachers and children in 104 countries.
The book was shared through storytelling to children in several countries affected by COVID-19. Feedback from children, parents and caregivers was then used to review and update the story.
Over 1,700 children, parents, caregivers and teachers from around the world took the time to shared how they were coping with the COVID-19 pandemic. Available in 141 Languages

This report outlines key human rights risks to children related to the COVID-19 crisis, and steps that governments should take to protect children’s rights in the pandemic, mitigate its devastating effects, and benefit children after the crisis is over.

The coronavirus pandemic has deepened the plight of people fleeing war, conflict and persecution. As countries battle to protect their populations and economies, fundamental norms of refugee and human rights law are at risk.
“The core principles of refugee protection are being put to test – b...ut people who are forced to flee conflict and persecution should not be denied safety and protection on the pretext, or even as a side effect, of responding to the virus,” said Filippo Grandi, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees.

Migrant and displaced children are at heightened risk to the immediate and secondary impacts of COVID-19. They often live in cramped conditions with limited access to water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH), may be in immig...ration detention or “left behind,” live with disabilities, unaccompanied or separated from their families, and can be hardest to reach with accurate information in a language they understand. Migrant workers and refugees can live in the most disadvantaged urban areas, where access to essential services is already limited. Refugee and migrant children may also be prevented from accessing essential services due to legal, documentation, linguistic or safety barriers. Further, the misinformation on the spread of COVID-19 exacerbates the xenophobia and discrimination that migrant and displaced children and their families already face.

Debido a la actual crisis socio-económica, política y de derechos humanos en Venezuela, cerca de 4.5 millones de personas han salido de su país; convirtiéndose en la segunda peor crisis migratoria del mundo, después de Siria. Se estima que más del 20% de los refugiados y migrantes son niños y... adolescentes. Cerca del 57% de los venezolanos en el exterior se encuentran en Ecuador, Colombia y Perú, según Naciones Unidas.
En 2018, Plan International decidió implementar una estrategia regional en Colombia, Ecuador y Perú para mejorar las condiciones de vida de los refugiados y migrantes venezolanos, durante sus etapas de tránsito y asentamiento.
Durante los meses de junio y julio de 2019, el equipo de la oficina regional visitó más de siete ciudades entre Colombia, Ecuador y Perú para escuchar los testimonios de los refugiados y migrantes, así como para analizar sus necesidades en materia de mecanismos de protección, prevención de la violencia y salud sexual y reproductiva.
El presente documento refleja algunas de las situaciones de riesgo y violencia a las que millones de venezolanos se enfrentan cada día, desde los testimonios y experiencias de 17 refugiados y migrantes.

Germany’s overall response to COVID-19 has been evaluated as reasoned and sound. Nonetheless, it has exposed weaknesses and blindspots in the German healthcare system regarding the inclusion of migrant groups. For instance, marginalised groups such as labour migrants and asylum-seekers are not con...sidered for tailored measures in the government’s response to COVID-19. On the other hand, certain efforts to include migrant groups, such as the provision of information in numerous languages, are unprecedented in the German context. La movilidad humana en Colombia incluye una combinación de migración interna e internacional, tanto de personas colombianas como originarios de otros países. Históricamente, el principal movimiento migratorio internacional en Colombia ha sido la emigración. Las razones son variad...as, muchas han estado relacionadas con el conflicto armado, la inestabilidad política y económica, unidas a la falta de oportunidades de algunos grupos de la población, lo que generó para muchas generaciones la salida del país en pro de una mejor calidad de vida. Un segundo movimiento masivo es el de las personas desplazadas internas por el conflicto armado. Más recientemente, a estos dos movimientos se ha sumado el de las personas venezolanas que ingresan a Colombia, ya sea con la intención de continuar hacia otros países de la región o para permanecer en este país. En este documento, abordamos los posibles impactos de la pandemia de COVID-19 en consideración de estas tres movilidades en Colombia.

The World Health Organization (WHO)6, the Civil Society Action Committee and the Lancet Migration global collaboration are amongst many organisations that have advised governments against returning irregular migrants during the Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. The expulsion of i...rregular migrants to under-prepared countries puts migrants and communities at risk, and is against the principles of solidarity and public health that should inspire action during these challenging times. It also puts at risk the staff who implement these policies. Detention, overcrowded conditions and lack of hygiene all render irregular migrants more vulnerable to the impact of COVID-19. Irregular laborers, agricultura land food workers, cleaners and caregivers are all essential in the response to the pandemic, there fore the temporary or longer term regularisation of migrants to facilitate their access to health, social services and employment should be considered as a humane, practical and self-interested alternative to forcible return.
