The CSHGP facilitates a dynami...c partnership between USAID and private and voluntary organizations (PVOs)/NGOs. Through the CSHGP, USAID leverages the development entrepreneurship and know how of PVOs/NGOs and their local partners for innovative and effective community-oriented programming that sustainably improves maternal, newborn and child health (MNCH) outcomes, strengthens local and community health systems, and contributes to reductions in morbidity and mortality. PVOs/NGOs, with their local partners (national and local MOH, local NGOs/CBOs, communities), implement in a range of settings, from remote communities in a single district to multiple districts or a province. Projects address critical health needs of vulnerable populationsand work strategically with a systems approach at the household, community,health facility, and policy levels and strengthens linkages as relevant.

The USAID Investment Support P...rogram (ISP) serves as the keystone award for USAIDs efforts to provide a full range of financial and investment services to potential investors; private sector actors; host government organizations; USAID field missions throughout the world; and USAID geographic and pillar bureaus. This activity will focus on mobilizing private sector capital towards opportunities that can generate an economic and social impact. This program is global in scope, with potential activities in any country and/or region where USAID operates. It is also open to engaging in any economic sector, in support of current and future Agency priorities. It is anticipated that at least 50% of this programs funding will be dedicated to agriculture activities in support of the Feed the Future Initiative.

The program, called Sustaining... Malaria Reduction Interventions in Oromia, will increase access to effective diagnostic tests and medicines to manage malaria cases and promote household ownership and proper use of insecticide-treated bednets. Through UNICEF, USAID will procure and distribute 3.7 million rapid diagnostic tests for use by health staff and health extension workers; distribute 9.4 million treatments of medicines to fully treat confirmed malaria infections in Oromia; and procure and distribute 3.9 million bednets and support the distribution of nets from other sources such as the Global Fund to Fight Aids, Tuberculosis and Malaria (GFATM), the World Bank, The Carter Center and other partners.

FY 2014 funds will be used to ...build the capacity of local organizations, schools and communities for implementation of community-based malaria prevention and control activities through education and behavioral change communications.The project uses harmonized malaria messages (eight essential malaria actions and four do-able actions) derived from the USAID-supported C-Change project with coordination through health extension workers including:-Conducting participatory baseline assessments;-Providing trainings for religious and community leaders, teachers and students, parents and families;-Supporting schools, mosques and churches;The project will furthermore promote increased and consistent utilization of LLINs, increased health care-seeking less than 24 hours after fever onset and increased acceptance of IRS spraying.

USAID supports the Federal Min...istry of Health (FMOH) via UNICEF to implement the Sustaining Malaria Reduction Interventions program in Ethiopia. This activity is USAIDs primary mechanism for the procurement and distribution of malaria commodities to districts and FMOH agencies, including the Pharmaceutical Funding and Supply Agency (PFSA). The programs commodities procurement and support include: -Long-lasting insecticidal treated bed nets-Malaria rapid diagnostic tests (RDTs)-ACT treatment dosages; chloroquine treatment dosages; rectal and parenteral artesunate; as well as drugs for pre-referral and management of severe malaria to cover national needs-Conducting annual micro-planning exercises for commodity quantification, consumption, and forecasting by district-Procurement of laboratory equipment and supplies (e.g. Microscopes) and including logistics systems support.

This mechanism will provide Te...chnical Assistance, Operational Research, and Monitoring and Evaluation support to the Federal Ministry of Healths malaria control program and strengthen data management capacity. The purpose is to strengthen the program and facilitate implementation of the National Strategic Plan for malaria and the HSDP IV. The project will have the following three objectives;1.Provide monitoring and evaluation support to the national malaria control program especially on-going malaria epidemic surveillance work that PMI supported through MEASURE III project. 2.Conduct and coordinate malaria operational research, formative evaluations and special studies including surveys including malaria indicator survey and impact evaluation. 3. Provide carefully selected specific technical assistance at national and regional levels in areas of proposal development, strategic document preparation and program management.

The Control and Prevention of ...Malaria (CAP-Malaria) project will advance the efforts of Cambodias National Malaria Program to strengthen malaria prevention and control in the border areas of Cambodia where there is drug resistant malaria. The CAP-Malaria project will conduct behavior-change communication campaigns to increase awareness about malaria prevention, particularly among mobile and migrant workers. It will distribute approximately 50,000 insecticide-treated bed nets to vulnerable populations. CAP-Malaria will strengthen antenatal care practices among health workers in high prevalence areas to improve care for patients and the use of rapid diagnostic tests. The project will also track malaria-borne mosquitos and their biting behaviors and facilitate cross-border cooperation between Thai and Cambodian health authorities. This effort will reduce Cambodias malaria burden, including malaria-related deaths, as well as move Cambodia towards the pre-elimination stage of malaria in specific areas.

MCSP is reducing maternal and ...newborn mortality and morbidity in Burma by strengthening the midwifery profession. In collaboration with the Ministry of Health (MOH) and other partners, we promote best practices in maternal and newborn health care, and provide capacity building support to the Myanmar Nurses Midwives Association. We focus on evidence-based, high-quality interventions to reduce the leading drivers of maternal mortality in the country: postpartum hemorrhage, pre-eclampsia/eclampsia, and sepsis. MCSP also addresses the major causes of newborn death through improved neonatal resuscitation, prevention and management of pre-term birth, care for preterm/low birth weight newborns, and identification and management of newborn infections. And we work with the MOH to provide national technical assistance for malaria in pregnancy and integrated community case management.

Endemic countries, particularly in Africa, differ widely in resources (financial and human) and experiences with LLIN distribution that contribute to a unique net context in each country. Partnerships and policies vary widely, while procurement and distribution challenges hamper implementation. This combination of issues underscores the need for flexibility inherent in the NetWorks approach. NetWorks emphasizes fitting program activities to the national net context.

SIAPS focuses on enhancing pha...rmaceutical services through patientcentered solutions while continuing to support essential supply chain functions and medical products supply security. The SIAPS goal is to support the achievement of improved and sustained health outcomes by applying a systems strengthening approach consistent with the Global Health Initiative (GHI) principles. The SIAPS result areas address the intersections of five health systems components as they pertain to pharmaceutical services (governance, human resources, information, financing, and service delivery) in the design of potential interventions to ensure that they respond to health element and cross cutting concerns in support of health system strengthening.

Under MalariaCare, PATH and it...s partners will work to improve accuracy of diagnostic testing in the public sector; increase the percentage of suspected malaria patients who received a diagnostic test for malaria; increase the percentage of patients who receive appropriate treatment for malaria or other related illness, consistent with the diagnostic test; and strengthen lab systems at country level for diagnosis of malaria and other infectious disease.

Communicate for Health (C4H) s...upports long-term social and behavior change to achieve better health outcomes for Ghanaians. The project implements evidence-based, theory-informed social and behavior change communication campaigns in the following areas: family planning; nutrition; maternal and child health; malaria prevention and treatment; HIV/AIDS; and water, sanitation and hygiene. In addition, the project seeks to strengthen the capacity of the Health Promotion Department of Ghana Health Service to design, develop and implement social and behavior change communications campaigns.
