the programme aims both to int...egrate broader reproductive health services within existing HIV specific services such as standalone HIV centres, and to integrate HIV prevention services into existing RH care delivery such as family planning services. Specific activities include: scaling up voluntary medical male circumcision; provision of family planning services; provision of post exposure HIV prevention for survivors of rape; scaling up HIV testing and counselling; HIV related care and treatment services to most at risk populations; and tackling key aspects of behaviour change relating to prevention of HIV and gender based violence. Economic participation and sel...f reliance integrating approaches aimed at reducing violence against women. The proposal specifically targets rural women in Ghana, Rwanda, Bangladesh and Pakistan through the Climate Resilient Sustainable Agriculture approach developed by ActionAid.
more
|
The program is based on the vi...sion that for women’s economic
empowerment to succeed women need to have equal access to
and control over resources and opportunities, including control
over their time and income. Deep seated views of women as
‘caregivers’ and men as ‘breadwinners’ continue to perpetuate
the discrimination of women. Empowerment cannot be achieved
without first addressing women’s unequal workload, which reinforces
gender inequalities by impinging upon education, restricting
opportunities for paid work, putting women at greater
risk of gender-based violence and limiting women’s political
participation. Interventions aimed at increasing women’s income
do not automatically lead to economic empowerment,
especially if a supportive household and community environment
is lacking.
The specific objective is to increase the income of 21,000 women
in the target countries and their ability to control their income,
through practicing Climate Resilient Sustainable Agriculture,
accessing markets and reducing, recognizing and redistributing
Unpaid Care Work by 2020.
To this end the programme implements activities to create an
enabling environment for equal rights and economic participation
of women by challenging prevailing gender norms, practices
and policies which are restricting women’s opportunities to
engage in productive work and enjoy equal access and control
over resources.
Themes: Primary focus on economic participation and selfreliance
integrating approaches aimed at reducing violence
against women.
Countries: Ghana, Rwanda, Pakistan and Bangladesh

African Health Markets for Equ...ity (AHME) to deliver high quality basic healthcare through the private sector and targeted at the poor in Ghana, Nigeria and Kenya. AHME seeks to improve supply of regulated private health care providers and to remove financial and other barriers to access (demand) by poor people. AHME involves regulation and policy engagement with Ministries of Health and health professional organisations. The aim is to improve the functioning of the whole health system in ways that benefit the poor, in terms of value for money, quality, access, security of supply, sustainability and equity. It is jointly funded by DFID and BMGF, and implemented by a consortium led by Marie Stopes International (MSI). There is also an independent evaluation of AHME being undertaken by Innovations for Poverty Action and University of California Berkeley. (Africa, regional 201101-112 HANSHEP p.4)

the programme aims both to int...egrate broader reproductive health services within existing HIV specific services such as standalone HIV centres, and to integrate HIV prevention services into existing RH care delivery such as family planning services. An increased number of poor pe...ople, in particular women and children will receive better quality and more affordable, or free, health services as a result of Non-State Actors (for profit and not for profit private sector, civil society organisations and faith based organisations) playing a more effective role working as part of a health system.
