Gaza Community Mental Health P...rogram has applied to Sida for continued funding of SEK 23,700,000 over a period of three years 2015-2017. The overall objective of the intervention is to provide high quality, integrated and specialised mental health services to enhance and sustain the Palestinian Society's wellbeing, based on the principals of justice, humanity and respect for human rights. This will be achieved through the three program components: 1) Contribute to improving the mental health situation of the population in the Gaza Strip. 2) Contribute to developing the capacities of professionals and other actors shaping the mental health system in the Gaza Strip.3) Enhance the performance of GCMHP through ongoing institutional development and knowledge management driven by research.GCMHP's total budget is SEK 50,675,200 out of which Sida will fund SEK 23,700,000. In addition, Sida sets aside an additional amount of maximum SEK 500,000 for a follow-up review at the end of the second year of implementation.********Supplementary decision 2018The overall objective of the intervention remains unchanged, along with the three program components given that GCMHP's strategic plan of 2015-2017 has been extended by one year to cover 2018. GCMHP has successfully completed an organizational restructuring process and significantly reduced their deficit. GCMHP has applied for 7,900,000 SEK- an amount consistent with Sweden's yearly disbursement to GCMHP since 2015. By the end of 2018, Sweden's total contribution to GCMHP since 2015 would be 32,435,000 SEK. GCMHP's total budget for 2018 is approximately 26 MSEK. During 2018, GCMHP will focus on their community mental health model, and implementing and evaluating their newly adopted policies (gender mainstreaming, integration of accounting and procurement softwares in the management information system.)

GAZA COMMUNITY MENTAL HEALTH P...ROGRAM 2019-2021
more
|
Gaza Community Mental Health P...rogram 2019-2021
more
|
The Gaza Community Mental Heal...th Programme (GCMHP) is a long-term partner to Sweden and was established in 1990 as a recognized non-governmental organization that provides specialized mental health services in Gaza. GCMHP focuses on offering community mental health services and is a resource for other community based organizations (CBOs) in Gaza, the Ministry of Health, and UNRWA. GCMHP's mission is: 'guided by the principles of justice and human rights, GCMHP provides inclusive, integrated, and specialized community mental health services in Palestine.'Sweden has supported GCMHP's previous strategic period 2014-2018 along with the Norwegian Representative Office and the Swiss Development Cooperation. The focus of the 2014-2018 strategic period was on strengthening the organizational structure of GCMHP to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the mental health services delivered. The focus for GCMHP in the upcoming strategic period 2019-2021 is to contribute to improve the mental wellbeing of the population in the Gaza Strip through providing access to specialized mental health services, having emergency response mechanisms in place to provide first aid psychological interventions, counselling, and referrals to those impacted by trauma, continuing to expand the pool of mental health professionals in Gaza through building the capacity of health care professionals, support the capacity of relevant organizations to provide basic care, non-specialized support, and an effective referral system, and focusing on action-oriented research. The intervention entails Sweden's contribution to GCMHP's core budget to work towards the following three strategic goals: 1. contribute to improving the mental health situation of the population in the Gaza Strip, 2. support the capacity of professionals and other actors to provide appropriate focused care, and 3. strengthen GCMHP's leadership role through implementing model procedures, protocols, and research.

WFAD: Sober Youth: Healthy Com...munities: Transforming violent youth in Kinshasa
more
|
This project aims at preventin...g violence among the youth in Kinshasa (inkl. gang violence, sexual violence and use of drugs etc.) by promoting their mental health and involving them in various economic and social activities, including income generation activities, water and sanitation, and other vocational training for their own and their communities well-being.WFAD is the lead organisation in charge of the coordination of the project while the implementation will be carried out by four local partner organisations. The reinforcement of the partner organisations and engaging them in the local, regional and global anti-drugs network is another aspect of the project which is expected to contribute to other aspects of poverty alleviation in the targeted areas.

WFAD - PRESTUDY ON VIOLENCE PR...EVENTION AND WELLBEING AMONG THE YOUTH IN KINSHASA
more
|
WFAD - Prestudy on violence pr...evention and wellbeing among the youth in Kinshasa
more
|
Violence caused by young peopl...e in Kinshasa is a major social problem and even a security problem in some parts of the city. The problem is explained by widespread poverty in households, high natality, lack of livelihoods and educational opportunities for young people, etc. Alcohol and drug abuse are among the most common direct causes of violent behavior among the youth in Kinshasa. The YMCAV project is an initiative that has succeeded in getting many young people out of violent groups thanks to a group-oriented behavioral therapy and a certain mobilization of important actors in society (such as schools and the police). The project has shown some limitations, especially regarding sustainability, since the project did not include measures nor interventions to prevent young people from returning to the dangerous groups. In addition, the project coordination has been inadequate, with poor follow up by the lead partner, which lead to inappropriate management of funds.Given their experience of working on similar issues in Eastern Europe and East Africa, WFAD has been offered this opportunity to use its expertise in the Congolese context as well. This contribution is to allow them to visit the project and conduct a feasibility study prior to their involvement. Language limitations may pose risks for WFAD to conduct this feasibility study. It can be solved by employing an experienced credible interpreter.

MENTAL HEALTH CENTRE UNGHENI
|
Mental Health Centre Ungheni
|

SDC continues to support the p...rovision of quality mental health services in Gaza because of the increased needs of the population, who suffers from high levels of stress, mental disorders, psychological and psychiatric problems, caused by the blockade of the Strip and by three armed conflicts in the last six years. The Gaza Community Mental Health Program (GCMHP) provides the Gaza population with specialized mental health services and trains NGOs staff in the field of psychosocial support. GCMHP will also enhance supervision capacities since the mental health professionals has been highly affected by the testimonies of people traumatized by the last war.
