This briefing paper provides an overview of the approach underlying EA, how and by whom it is applied and its problems and consequences. It concludes that policy makers, rather than be guided by its assumptions and conclusions, must instead concentrate on understand-i...ng the confounding structural causes of interdependent global challenges and aim at their long-term solution, within an overarching human rights framework.

It aims to achieve the substantial reduction of disaster risk and losses in lives, livelihoods and health and in the economic, physical, social, cultural and environmental assets of persons, businesses, communities and countries over the next 15 years.

Pour disposer de capacités fonctionnelles et pérennes, le pays devra ren...forcer encore d’avantage l’ensemble des 19 domaines techniques en mettant en œuvre les recommandations ci-dessous. A cet égard, il est primordial de mettre l’accent sur : i) l’élaboration et l’application de cadres législatifs, propices à l’application du Règlement sanitaire international (2005) et à la gestion des risques de catastrophe ; ii) la coordination multisectorielle dans la mise en œuvre du Règlement sanitaire international (2005) ; iii) le renforcement des capacités du point focal RSI ainsi que sa relation avec tous les secteurs clés dans la prévention, la détection et la riposte ; iv) la rédaction et la mise en œuvre des procédures requises en tenant compte de l’approche englobant l’ensemble des menaces ; et v) l’analyse et la cartographie des risques d’épidémies et de catastrophes, en utilisant une approche multisectorielle qui permettra d’actualiser et d’établir des plans de préparation et de riposte contre les zoonoses, les maladies infectieuses émergentes et ré-émergentes et les facteurs de risque environnementaux en utilisant l’approche « Une seule santé ».

Les organismes résistants aux antimicrobiens (RAM) sont de plus en plus répandus à l'échelle mondiale, menaçant de rendre inefficaces les traitements existants contre les nombreuses maladies infectieuses. Il a déjà été établi qu’en Afrique la résistance aux antimicrobiens est un problè...me pour le VIH et les pathogènes responsables du paludisme, de la tuberculose, de la typhoïde, du choléra, de la méningite, de la gonorrhée et de la dysenterie. Reconnaissant le besoin urgent d'agir, l'Assemblée mondiale de la Santé a adopté, en mai 2015, le Plan d'action mondial pour la résistance aux antimicrobiens. Conformément à ce Plan d'action, et pour répondre aux besoins spécifiques de l'Afrique, les Centres africains pour le contrôle et la prévention des maladies (CDC) ont créé le Réseau de surveillance de la résistance antimicrobienne (AMRSNET). This guidance document is meant to support practitioners working in disaster prone contexts to develop and implement more effective integrated resilience programming. It promotes programming that cuts across different fields of work like rights awareness, food security, emergency preparedness, livel...ihoods, education, health etc. whilst at the same time encouraging us to work simultaneously at the individual, household, community and national level. It includes specific recommendations for developing resilience programming for communities prone to floods, cyclone, drought and earthquakes. It also includes recommendations to develop safe school programming to help reduce the impact of disasters on school infrastructure, ensure education continuity and build the resilience of students, teachers and their families.

Many features of the environment have been found to exert an important influence on cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk, progression, and severity. Changes in the environment due to migration to different geographic locations, modifications in lifestyle choices, and shifts in social policies and cultu...ral practices alter CVD risk, even in the absence of genetic changes. Nevertheless, the cumulative impact of the environment on CVD risk has been difficult to assess
and the mechanisms by which some environment factors influence CVD remain obscure. Human environments are complex; and their natural, social and personal domains are highly variable due to diversity in human ecosystems, evolutionary histories, social structures, and individual choices. Accumulating evidence supports the notion that ecological features such as the diurnal cycles of
light and day, sunlight exposure, seasons, and geographic characteristics of the natural environment such altitude, latitude and greenspaces are important determinants of cardiovascular health and CVD risk. In highly developed societies, the influence of the natural environment is moderated by the physical characteristics of the social environments such as the built environment
and pollution, as well as by socioeconomic status and social networks. These attributes of the
social environment shape lifestyle choices that significantly modify CVD risk. An understanding
of how different domains of the environment, individually and collectively, affect CVD risk could
lead to a better appraisal of CVD, and aid in the development of new preventive and therapeutic
strategies to limit the increasingly high global burden of heart disease and stroke.
