Selon les estimations faites en novembre 20151, plus de 2,4 millions de personnes sont en insécurité alimentaire (soit 17% de la population), dont 220 461 ...seront en crise pendant la période de soudure 20162. le nombre d’enfants en situation de malnutrition aiguë pourrait être de plus de 407 500 en 2016, parmi lesquels plus de 86 000 en sévère3. les chocs climatiques tels que la sécheresse et le retard de démarrage de la saison pluvieuse ont affecté le nord du pays alors que dans d’autres zones les inondations ont affecté plus de 60 000 personnes4. l’épidémie de la maladie à virus Ebola (MVE) qui a sévi aux portes du pays a montré qu’un renforcement du système de surveillance épidémiologique ainsi que le renforcement des structures de santé sont requis.

Child Friendly Spaces (CFSs) are used by humanitarian agencies as a means to promote protection and psychosocial wellbeing for children in emergency settings. World Vision International together with Columbia University is conducting a series of studies to investigate the effectiveness of CFSs in va...rious humanitarian contexts in order to document evidence of the positive effects they have in relation to child wellbeing and protection, to identify good practice in their design and implementation and to develop improved monitoring and evaluation approaches for CFSs. The case studies have so far all been focused on refugee settings and while internally displaced populations (IDPs) share many of the circumstances and challenges of refugees it was decided that CFSs operating in IDP settings warrant a particular investigation in order to assess their relevance and effectiveness in promoting child protection and psychosocial wellbeing. This report thus presents the findings from an IDP focused study on CFS effectiveness in three camps near Goma, eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

Prioritise education in conflict-affected areas:
Across the world 28 million1 primary school-age children living in conflict-affected countries are
out-of-school, and they form half of the world’s total out-of-school population. During conflict,
infrastructure assets such as schools are damaged... or completely destroyed during fighting. Children
may choose to stay away from school due to their and their family’s safety fears in the midst of
conflict, or the need to supplement their family’s income amidst conflict-related financial loss.
Children who are internally displaced by conflict face a particularly challenging task accessing
education due to the specific conditions created by their displacement, such as loss of livelihoods
making school fees hard to find, and discrimination from host communities. Children caught in
conflict are being deprived of their right to education2 and denied the opportunity to benefit from the
protective and life-sustaining mechanisms of education.
