This project aims to improve a...ccess to sexual and reproductive health (SRH) and nutrition services that are adapted to the needs of adolescents in Burkina Faso, and to create a supportive environment for adolescent SRH, including the recognition of their rights. To this end, the project provides training and technical assistance to public health providers in nearly 700 health centres in order to promote good practices in the delivery of SRH services that are adapted to the needs of adolescents and respectful of their rights. The project also contributes to the development and dissemination of communication strategies and tools within the Ministry of Health and other partners on family planning, nutrition, sexually transmitted infections and HIV/AIDS. In addition, the project conducts advocacy with adolescents, teachers, parents, communities and policy makers. This project is implemented by Helen Keller International, in partnership with Marie Stopes Burkina Faso and Farm Radio International. /Ce projet vise à améliorer l'accès à des services de santé sexuelle et reproductive (SSR) et de nutrition qui sont adaptés aux besoins des adolescents (autant les filles que les garçons) au Burkina Faso, et à créer un environnement favorable à la SSR des adolescents, y compris la reconnaissance de leurs droits. Pour ce faire, le projet offre de la formation et de l'assistance technique aux prestataires de la santé publique dans près de 700 centres de santé afin de promouvoir de bonnes pratiques dans la livraison de services de SSR adaptés aux besoins et respectant les droits des adolescents. Le projet contribue aussi à l'élaboration et la reproduction de stratégies et d'outils de communication au sein du ministère de la Santé et des autres partenaires sur la planification familiale, la nutrition, les infections transmises sexuellement et le VIH/sida. De plus, le projet mène des efforts de sensibilisation et de plaidoyer auprès des adolescents, des enseignants, des parents, des communautés et des décideurs politiques. Ce projet est mis en œuvre par Helen Keller International, en partenariat avec Marie Stopes Burkina Faso et Radio rurales internationales.

The project aims to improve th...e health and protect the rights of women, adolescent girls and children, including indigenous and afro-descendant populations, living in situations of vulnerability in Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Guatemala, Guyana, Haiti, Honduras, Nicaragua, Paraguay, Peru and Suriname. Project activities include: (1) strengthening national systems of health statistics to improve the reliability of data on maternal deaths; (2) strengthening the ability of health services to provide appropriate care for children, girls and women to prevent HIV transmission and other diseases transmitted from mother to child; (3) strengthening national capacity to develop annual action plans for immunization; and (5) strengthening national capacity in micronutrient distribution to children, women of childbearing age and pregnant women. /Le projet vise à améliorer la santé et à protéger les droits des femmes, des adolescentes et des enfants, notamment ceux des populations autochtones et d'ascendance africaine, qui vivent dans des situations de vulnérabilité en Bolivie, en Colombie, en Équateur, au Guatemala, au Guyana, en Haïti, au Honduras, au Nicaragua, au Paraguay, au Pérou et au Suriname. This initiative aims to reduce... maternal and child mortality in 20 villages in Lubutu and Walikale, in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Project activities include: (1) training health workers and community volunteers in reproductive health, family planning tools, water, hygiene and sanitation; (2) sensitizing community members in reproductive health, family planning tools, water, hygiene and sanitation; (3) sensitizing pregnant women in safe pregnancy, delivery and motherhood; (4) building and equipping maternity wards with basic material, supplies and equipment; (5) providing supplies and material to support family planning promotion in health centres; (6) equipping mobile health units with material and supplies to deliver ante and post-natal care in remote areas; (7) constructing maternity wards with latrines and showers, medical waste incinerators, and placenta and waste pits; and (8) providing clean water to new maternity wards and surrounding communities. This project is expected to directly reach 77,209 people. The Jane Goodall Institute of Canada is implementing this project in collaboration with the following local partners: Jane Goodall Institute of the DRC, the Programme National de Santé de la Reproduction – Maniema Province, and the Programme National de Santé de la Reproduction – North Kivu Province. /Cette initiative vise à réduire le taux de mortalité des mères et des enfants dans 20 villages du Lubutu et Walikale, en République démocratique du Congo (RDC). Les activités incluent: 1) la formation des agents de santé et de volontaires communautaires sur la santé génésique, les outils de planification familiale, et l'eau, l'hygiène et l'assainissement; 2) sensibilisation des communautés sur la santé génésique, les outils de planification familiale, et l'eau, l'hygiène et l'assainissement; 3) sensibilisation des femmes enceintes en matière de grossesse et de maternité; 4) construction et équipements de salles de maternité avec du matériel de base, fournitures et équipement; 5) fournir du matériel pour appuyer la promotion de la planification familiale dans des établissements de santé; 6) équipement d'unités mobiles dotées de matériel et de fournitures pour dispenser des soins pré et postnatals dans des régions éloignées; 7) construction de nouvelles maternités avec des latrines, des douches, d'incinérateurs de déchets médicaux, de placenta et de fosses à déchets; 8) la fourniture d'eau potable à de nouvelles maternités et aux communautés environnantes. Cette initiative touche directement 77 209 personnes. L'Institut Jane Goodall du Canada met en œuvre ce projet en collaboration avec les partenaires locaux suivant: L'Institut Jane Goodall de la RDC, le Programme National de Santé de la Reproduction – Province de Maniema, et le Programme National de Santé de la Reproduction –Province du Nord-Kivu.

This project aims to reduce mo...ther and child mortality rates in 15 areas of the Tshopo and Ituri provincial health divisions in the Democratic Republic of the Congo's Eastern Province. Health divisions have poorly trained workers, little capacity to plan and high rates of mothers and child mortality. Through this project, the delivery of adapted health services to mothers and children (age 0-5) aims to be improved by increasing the professional skills of health workers. Furthermore, supporting the local financial capacity should improve health services planning and access to quality data. To increase use of these health services, education campaigns are to be launched to teach about reducing maternity risks, family planning, sexually transmitted diseases, as well as early pregnancy. Project activities include: (1) training health care providers; (2) strengthening executives' management skills; (3) building five maternity wards and 15 maternity rehabilitation wards; (4) providing equipment and medicines; (5) launching awareness campaigns for the prevention of mother-child HIV/AIDS transmission;( 6) assisting 3,500 seropositive women and newborns; (7) launching an early pregnancy prevention campaign; and (8) organising knowledge sharing and networking events for the general Canadian public in order to stimulate their commitment to support MNCH initiatives in developing countries. Direct beneficiaries are: 300,000 pregnant women, 90,000 spouses (men), 43,000 youth (age 15-24) as well as 455,000 newborns and children under five, of which 52% are girls. These beneficiaries will be better informed and/or will use the improved health services. More than 700 health care providers (nurses, doctors, specialists), and 355 health care managers and executives will have stronger professional skills. Oxfam-Québec is implementing this project in collaboration with the following local partners: : Anti-Bwaki Mothers' Association, Ituri Provincial Health Division and Tshopo Provincial Health Division. /Ce projet vise à réduire la mortalité chez les mères et les enfants dans 15 zones des Divisions provinciales de la santé de la Tshopo et de l'Ituri, en Province Orientale de la République Démocratique du Congo (RDC). Les divisions provinciales de santé ont des travailleurs peu qualifiés, une faible capacité en planification et des taux de mortalité maternels et infantiles très élévés. La prestation des services de santé adaptés aux mères et aux enfants (0 à cinq ans) vise à être améliorée par l'accroissement des compétences professionnelles des travailleurs/ses de la santé. De plus, la planification des services de santé vise à être améliorée en supportant les capacités de financement local et l'accès à des données de qualité. The project aims to address ba...rriers faced by women, adolescent girls and girls in achieving their optimal level of sexual and reproductive health, and asserting their sexual and reproductive rights in selected districts of Bangladesh, El Salvador, the Philippines and Sudan. The project works to improve sexual and reproductive health and rights through advocacy, as central to a human rights approach. Project activities include: (1) advocating to government at local, state or national levels, as well as to non-governmental decision-makers, in order for them to enact policy or legislative change and to implement these changes; (2) delivering sexual and reproductive health and rights services paired with advocacy; and (3) increasing awareness of sexual and reproductive health and rights, including the right to be free from sexual and gender-based violence, within communities, schools, and in public awareness campaigns to promote national dialogue on the barriers to those rights and the need for change. The project targets an estimated 25,000 direct beneficiaries comprised of 19,234 women and 5,766 men. /Le projet vise à lever les obstacles qui empêchent les femmes, les adolescentes et les filles de bénéficier d'un niveau optimal de santé sexuelle et reproductive, et de faire valoir leurs droits en ce domaine, notamment dans certaines régions du Bangladesh, du Salvador, des Philippines et du Soudan. Il aide à promouvoir leur santé et leurs droits sexuels et reproductifs (SDSR) par la défense de leurs intérêts, en tant qu'élément central d'une approche axée sur les droits de la personne. The project aims to advance th...e empowerment of women and girls by preventing and responding to sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) in Ethiopia. The project includes activities to support women and girls in reaching their full potential and meeting their sexual and reproductive health needs, free from violence, harmful traditional practices, exploitation and discrimination. Project activities include: (1) increasing awareness on SGBV, including harmful traditional practices, as well as on sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) with communities, local authorities, vulnerable households, and change agents such as traditional leaders; (2) training psycho-social counsellors and health personnel, including government health workers, on gender-responsive SGBV services; (3) establishing or strengthening model clinics, safe houses and one-stop centres to provide comprehensive and integrated services on SGBV and SRHR; and (4) training and technical support to improve the implementation of relevant legal and policy frameworks around SGBV and SRHR, for instance for law enforcement bodies. The project focuses on 8 regions across Ethiopia, targeting 14 million people. /Le projet a pour but de favoriser le renforcement du pouvoir des femmes et des filles éthiopiennes et de lutter contre la violence sexuelle et sexiste (VSS) en Éthiopie. Le projet prévoit des activités pour aider les femmes et les filles à atteindre leur plein potentiel et répondre à leurs besoins en matière de santé sexuelle et reproductive, à l'abri de la violence, des coutumes néfastes, et de l'exploitation et de la discrimination. Parmi les activités du projet : 1) accroître la sensibilisation à la VSS, y compris aux coutumes néfastes, et à la santé et aux droits sexuels et reproductifs (SDSR) auprès des collectivités, des autorités locales, des ménages vulnérables et des agents de changement, comme les leaders traditionnels; 2) fournir aux conseillers psychosociaux et au personnel de santé, dont les agents sanitaires gouvernementaux, de la formation sur les services sexospécifiques relatifs à la VSS; 3) mettre en place ou consolider des cliniques exemplaires, des refuges et des centres intégrés afin qu'ils fournissent des services complets et intégrés en matière de VSS et de SDSR; (4) fournir de la formation et du soutien technique pour améliorer l'application de cadres juridiques et stratégiques appropriés en VSS et en SDSR, par exemple pour les organismes d'application de la loi. This project aims to support p...oor and vulnerable adolescent girls and young women in targeted communities of Ethiopia, Malawi, Mozambique and Zambia by increasing their knowledge of and access to their sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR). Project goals include: (1) empowering adolescent girls and young women to demand access to comprehensive sexual and reproductive health (SRH) information and services so they can make reproductive health choices for themselves; (2) improving the quality of SRH information and services; (3) strengthening the capacity of women's rights organisations and youth-led organisations to advocate for policies and resources that support SRHR; and (4) promoting the engagement and activism of Canadian youth, including those based in the Canadian North, through knowledge-exchange campaigns on global SRHR issues. Project activities include: (1) engaging communities to understand and transform discriminatory social norms, particularly sexual and gender-based violence facing adolescent girls and young women; (2) strengthening health systems to deliver comprehensive SRH services, including family planning, contraceptives, and safe and legal abortion; and (3) building capacity of local and Canadian women's rights organisations and youth-led organisations to advocate for change in SRHR policy and practice. The project is expected to train 596 health workers (including 367 women) and 1,000 community resource persons in comprehensive SRH information and services and reach 250,000 women and adolescents (80% of whom are adolescents and young women) and 90,000 men (including youth) through improved sexual and reproductive health information and services. It also indirectly affects approximately 800,000 people (51% of whom are women). /Ce projet vise à aider les adolescentes et les jeunes femmes pauvres et vulnérables dans des communautés ciblées de l'Éthiopie, du Malawi, du Mozambique et de la Zambie à être mieux informées sur leur santé et leurs droits sexuels et reproductifs (SDSR) et à y accéder. The project aims to improve th...e sexual and reproductive health of women and teenage girls, as well as the health of newborns and children in the two departments of Haiti's Grand Sud region that were most affected by Hurricane Matthew in October 2016. It is strengthening 28 health institutions by, among other things, repairing infrastructure, providing equipment and medicines and training staff. By improving access to and quality of integrated health services focused on the needs of women and adolescent girls, the project aims to reduce teenage pregnancies by 75% and provide access to 72,000 more women to a modern contraceptive method. The project also aims to strengthen the Haitian government's capacities in health sector management, coordination and monitoring at the central and departmental levels. It is estimated that, every year, approximately 15,400 pregnant women, 3,000 women who are potential victims of gender based violence and 3,400 children are to benefit from the services provided by the health institutions supported by the project. /Le projet vise à améliorer la santé sexuelle et de la reproduction des femmes et des adolescentes et la santé des nouveau-nés et des enfants dans les deux départements du grand Sud d'Haïti les plus affectés par l'ouragan Mathieu en octobre 2016. Il renforce 28 institutions de santé par, entre autres, la réparation d'infrastructures, la dotation en équipements et médicaments et la formation du personnel. En améliorant l'accès et la qualité des services de santé intégrés et centrés sur les besoins des femmes et des adolescentes, le projet cherche à réduire de 75 % les grossesses chez les adolescentes et à donner accès à 72 000 femmes supplémentaires à une méthode de contraception moderne. Le projet vise également à renforcer les capacités du gouvernement haïtien en gestion, coordination et suivi du secteur de la santé, aux niveaux central et départemental. Il est estimé que, chaque année, environ 15 400 femmes enceintes, 3 000 femmes victimes potentielles de violences basées sur le genre et 3 400 enfants bénéficient des services fournies par les institutions de santé appuyées par le projet.

Key activities include: (1) increasing birth deliveries in health facilities; (2) supporting secondary schools to offer sexual and reproductive health services, such as information and support for contraceptive methods; (3) increasing family planning services; (4) increasing the number of health centers carrying out semi-annual public social audits; and (5) improving certification and coding of information on causes of death through strengthened civil registration and vital statistics (CRVS) systems. The project is implemented in collaboration with the Global Financing Facility in Support of Every Woman, Every Child. It is aligned with the priorities of the Government of Mozambique's Health Sector Plan to improve reproductive, maternal, newborn, child and adolescent health and nutrition, as well as to strengthen its CRVS systems. This project seeks to improve ...gender equality in the provinces of Nampula and Zambézia by promoting and helping to realize adolescent girls' and young women's sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) in Mozambique. The project works at accomplishing this by empowering the poorest and most vulnerable adolescent girls' and young women with knowledge, skills and access to SRHR services. The project also aims to increase their communities' commitment and support to protect girls' and women's rights by engaging boys, men, families and communities to change discriminatory socio-cultural norms and behaviours. Project activities include: (1) promoting life skills and SRHR through the use of safe spaces, peer mentoring and girls' clubs; (2) training local sexual and reproductive health service providers to meet girls' and young women's needs; (3) educating family members, community religious leaders, and boys and men on the importance of girls' education and their SRHR; (4) improving SRHR policies and programming capacity through improved data, monitoring and evaluation and coordination; and (5) amplifying confidential access to SRHR information for girls and young women through innovative use of communications technologies, such as online interactive counselling and text messaging. The project contributes to improving gender equality and the realization of SRHR for about 1.2 million girls and young women in the provinces of Nampula and Zambézia. /Ce projet vise à améliorer l'égalité des sexes dans les provinces de Nampula et de Zambézie en favorisant et en encourageant la santé et les droits sexuels et reproductifs (SDSR) des adolescentes et des jeunes femmes au Mozambique. Le projet travaille à cet objectif en donnant des connaissances, des compétences et un accès aux services de SDSR aux adolescentes et aux jeunes femmes les plus pauvres et les plus vulnérables. Le projet vise aussi à accroître l'engagement des communautés envers le soutien et la protection des droits des filles et des femmes en mobilisant les garçons, les hommes, les familles et les communautés pour qu'ils changent les normes socioculturelles et les comportements discriminatoires. This project aims to support p...oor and vulnerable adolescent girls and young women in targeted communities of Ethiopia, Malawi, Mozambique and Zambia by increasing their knowledge of and access to their sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR). Project goals include: (1) empowering adolescent girls and young women to demand access to comprehensive sexual and reproductive health (SRH) information and services so they can make reproductive health choices for themselves; (2) improving the quality of SRH information and services; (3) strengthening the capacity of women's rights organisations and youth-led organisations to advocate for policies and resources that support SRHR; and (4) promoting the engagement and activism of Canadian youth, including those based in the Canadian North, through knowledge-exchange campaigns on global SRHR issues. Project activities include: (1) engaging communities to understand and transform discriminatory social norms, particularly sexual and gender-based violence facing adolescent girls and young women; (2) strengthening health systems to deliver comprehensive SRH services, including family planning, contraceptives, and safe and legal abortion; and (3) building capacity of local and Canadian women's rights organisations and youth-led organisations to advocate for change in SRHR policy and practice. The project is expected to train 596 health workers (including 367 women) and 1,000 community resource persons in comprehensive SRH information and services and reach 250,000 women and adolescents (80% of whom are adolescents and young women) and 90,000 men (including youth) through improved sexual and reproductive health information and services. It also indirectly affects approximately 800,000 people (51% of whom are women). /Ce projet vise à aider les adolescentes et les jeunes femmes pauvres et vulnérables dans des communautés ciblées de l'Éthiopie, du Malawi, du Mozambique et de la Zambie à être mieux informées sur leur santé et leurs droits sexuels et reproductifs (SDSR) et à y accéder. The project aims to address ba...rriers faced by women, adolescent girls and girls in achieving their optimal level of sexual and reproductive health, and asserting their sexual and reproductive rights in selected districts of Bangladesh, El Salvador, the Philippines and Sudan. The project works to improve sexual and reproductive health and rights through advocacy, as central to a human rights approach. Project activities include: (1) advocating to government at local, state or national levels, as well as to non-governmental decision-makers, in order for them to enact policy or legislative change and to implement these changes; (2) delivering sexual and reproductive health and rights services paired with advocacy; and (3) increasing awareness of sexual and reproductive health and rights, including the right to be free from sexual and gender-based violence, within communities, schools, and in public awareness campaigns to promote national dialogue on the barriers to those rights and the need for change. The project targets an estimated 25,000 direct beneficiaries comprised of 19,234 women and 5,766 men. /Le projet vise à lever les obstacles qui empêchent les femmes, les adolescentes et les filles de bénéficier d'un niveau optimal de santé sexuelle et reproductive, et de faire valoir leurs droits en ce domaine, notamment dans certaines régions du Bangladesh, du Salvador, des Philippines et du Soudan. Il aide à promouvoir leur santé et leurs droits sexuels et reproductifs (SDSR) par la défense de leurs intérêts, en tant qu'élément central d'une approche axée sur les droits de la personne. The project also strives to foster multi-sectoral collaboration across institutions (health, social services, justice, police, education), to strengthen institutional capacity and evidence-based decision-making to increase the availability of quality SRHR and SGBV services (information, counselling and prevention) that respond to the needs of women and girls, free from bias and discrimination. Project activities include: (1) training health workers (doctors, nurses, managers and community health workers) in the targeted districts' health facilities on proven integrated delivery models of SHRH, SGBV and HIV services that respond to the needs of women and young girls and are free of bias and discrimination; (2) training social service professionals and community health workers on integrated SGBV case management, including referral pathways, and field testing and documentation of results in selected locations in the targeted districts; (3) improving data systems and enhancing disaggregation of data (by sex, age, disability, ethnicity, etc.) to better target SRHR policy and programming; (4) training community networks that engage with men, boys, parents and caregivers, and young girls to run advocacy campaigns with government to invest in quality SRHR and SGBV services free from bias and discrimination and prevent and respond to SGBV. It is expected the project directly reaches 300,000 adolescents girls and young women (aged between 15 and 24) and further indirectly reaches 1,5 million beneficiaries. /Le projet vise à s'attaquer aux normes sociales discriminatoires qui perpétuent la violence sexuelle et sexiste et qui empêchent les femmes et les adolescentes d'exercer leurs droits sexuels et reproductifs dans certains des districts les plus marginalisés d'Afrique du Sud, soit les districts de Nelson Mandela, Alfred Nzo et Uthukela. Supported by Canada, the Unite...d Kingdom, Sweden, and the United States, the Health Pooled Fund supports the delivery of basic health and nutrition services in hospitals, health facilities, and communities in eight of South Sudan's ten former states. Canada's contribution to the Health Pooled Fund helps support the empowerment of women and girls to access quality health services, including sexual and reproductive health services, free from discrimination, coercion and violence. This requires ensuring that quality, gender-sensitive health services, including sexual and reproductive health (SRH) services, are available in facilities and communities, and by increasing knowledge on sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) and shaping positive attitudes and practices in order to support women's and girls' agency and decision-making power. This project builds on previous support to the Health Pooled Fund and is part of Canada's commitment to improve the reproductive health and rights of women and children. /Avec l'appui du Canada, du Royaume-Uni, de la Suède et des États-Unis, le Fonds commun en santé soutient la prestation de services de base en matière de santé et de nutrition dans des hôpitaux, des établissements de santé et des collectivités de huit des dix anciens États du Soudan du Sud. La contribution du Canada au Fonds commun pour la santé aide à appuyer l'habilitation des femmes et des filles à accéder à des services de santé de qualité, y compris des services de santé sexuelle et génésique, sans discrimination, coercition et violence. Pour ce faire, il faut veiller à ce que des services de santé de qualité qui tiennent compte des sexospécificités, notamment des services de la santé et les droits sexuels (SDS), soient offerts dans les établissements et communautés. The project aims to address ba...rriers faced by women, adolescent girls and girls in achieving their optimal level of sexual and reproductive health, and asserting their sexual and reproductive rights in selected districts of Bangladesh, El Salvador, the Philippines and Sudan. The project works to improve sexual and reproductive health and rights through advocacy, as central to a human rights approach. Project activities include: (1) advocating to government at local, state or national levels, as well as to non-governmental decision-makers, in order for them to enact policy or legislative change and to implement these changes; (2) delivering sexual and reproductive health and rights services paired with advocacy; and (3) increasing awareness of sexual and reproductive health and rights, including the right to be free from sexual and gender-based violence, within communities, schools, and in public awareness campaigns to promote national dialogue on the barriers to those rights and the need for change. The project targets an estimated 25,000 direct beneficiaries comprised of 19,234 women and 5,766 men. /Le projet vise à lever les obstacles qui empêchent les femmes, les adolescentes et les filles de bénéficier d'un niveau optimal de santé sexuelle et reproductive, et de faire valoir leurs droits en ce domaine, notamment dans certaines régions du Bangladesh, du Salvador, des Philippines et du Soudan. Il aide à promouvoir leur santé et leurs droits sexuels et reproductifs (SDSR) par la défense de leurs intérêts, en tant qu'élément central d'une approche axée sur les droits de la personne. The project aims to improve th...e health and protect the rights of women, adolescent girls and children, including indigenous and afro-descendant populations, living in situations of vulnerability in Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Guatemala, Guyana, Haiti, Honduras, Nicaragua, Paraguay, Peru and Suriname. Project activities include: (1) strengthening national systems of health statistics to improve the reliability of data on maternal deaths; (2) strengthening the ability of health services to provide appropriate care for children, girls and women to prevent HIV transmission and other diseases transmitted from mother to child; (3) strengthening national capacity to develop annual action plans for immunization; and (5) strengthening national capacity in micronutrient distribution to children, women of childbearing age and pregnant women. /Le projet vise à améliorer la santé et à protéger les droits des femmes, des adolescentes et des enfants, notamment ceux des populations autochtones et d'ascendance africaine, qui vivent dans des situations de vulnérabilité en Bolivie, en Colombie, en Équateur, au Guatemala, au Guyana, en Haïti, au Honduras, au Nicaragua, au Paraguay, au Pérou et au Suriname. This project works to empower ...and to improve the sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) and well-being of vulnerable Tanzanian adolescent girls through a multifaceted and comprehensive approach and by working with adolescent boys and girls, parents, communities and governments. Project activities include: (1) scaling-up the supply (provision of and access to services) and demand (request for and use of services) for a full range of SRHR and nutrition services and information for adolescent girls; (2) establishing a platform for adolescent girls to share views on, and gain knowledge of, their SRHR, nutrition and empowerment issues, and leverage this platform for SRHR advocacy; (3) building evidence for enhanced government programming, policy, advocacy and accountability in adolescent girls' SRHR and nutrition issues and gaps, and propose innovative solutions; (4) training approximately 1,162 healthcare workers in 581 health facilities, and 3,350 community health workers; (5) raising the awareness of over 227,500 adolescent girls and 200,000 adolescent boys on their SRHR and on nutrition issues through community and school interventions and activities, as well as providing leadership training; (6) reaching approximately 850,000 adolescent girls and boys through youth-targeted radio programs and media interventions; and (7) raising the awareness of approximately 200,000 adolescent boys and 30,000 parents on harmful norms, gender roles and social attitudes that are barriers to the well-being and empowerment of adolescent girls. /Ce projet vise à autonomiser et à améliorer la santé et les droits sexuels et reproductifs (SDSR) et le bien-être des adolescentes tanzaniennes vulnérables grâce à une approche multidimensionnelle et globale et en travaillant avec les adolescents, garçons et filles, les parents, les communautés et les gouvernements. This project aims to support p...oor and vulnerable adolescent girls and young women in targeted communities of Ethiopia, Malawi, Mozambique and Zambia by increasing their knowledge of and access to their sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR). Project goals include: (1) empowering adolescent girls and young women to demand access to comprehensive sexual and reproductive health (SRH) information and services so they can make reproductive health choices for themselves; (2) improving the quality of SRH information and services; (3) strengthening the capacity of women's rights organisations and youth-led organisations to advocate for policies and resources that support SRHR; and (4) promoting the engagement and activism of Canadian youth, including those based in the Canadian North, through knowledge-exchange campaigns on global SRHR issues. Project activities include: (1) engaging communities to understand and transform discriminatory social norms, particularly sexual and gender-based violence facing adolescent girls and young women; (2) strengthening health systems to deliver comprehensive SRH services, including family planning, contraceptives, and safe and legal abortion; and (3) building capacity of local and Canadian women's rights organisations and youth-led organisations to advocate for change in SRHR policy and practice. The project is expected to train 596 health workers (including 367 women) and 1,000 community resource persons in comprehensive SRH information and services and reach 250,000 women and adolescents (80% of whom are adolescents and young women) and 90,000 men (including youth) through improved sexual and reproductive health information and services. It also indirectly affects approximately 800,000 people (51% of whom are women). /Ce projet vise à aider les adolescentes et les jeunes femmes pauvres et vulnérables dans des communautés ciblées de l'Éthiopie, du Malawi, du Mozambique et de la Zambie à être mieux informées sur leur santé et leurs droits sexuels et reproductifs (SDSR) et à y accéder. This project represents Canad...a's support to the 10th International AIDS Society (IAS) Conference on HIV Science - known as IAS 2019 - The 10th IAS Conference on HIV Science (IAS 2019) takinges place from July 21-24, 2019 in Mexico City, Mexico. The IAS Conference on HIV Science is the world's most influential meeting on HIV research and its applications. This biennial conference presents the critical advances in basic, clinical and operational research that moves science into policy and practice. Through its open and inclusive programme development, the meeting sets the gold standard of HIV research featuring highly diverse and cutting-edge studies. As a key platform for the intersection of science, advocacy and human rights, International AIDS Society (IAS) conferencess aim to review progress and scientific evidence, and identify course corrections in science, policy and advocacy, with a view to promote a human rights-based and gender-informed HIV response. This initiative aims to contribute to a more dynamic, inclusive and sustainable multi-sectoral response to the HIV/AIDS epidemic. Expected Results The expected outcomes for this project include: (1) HIV prevention, treatment and care policies and programmes are informed by latest scientific evidence, and (2) HIV and AIDS research agendas and policies reflect identified knowledge gaps across disciplines and in the context of programme implementation needs. /

The project aims to address ba...rriers faced by women, adolescent girls and girls in achieving their optimal level of sexual and reproductive health, and asserting their sexual and reproductive rights in selected districts of Bangladesh, El Salvador, the Philippines and Sudan. The project works to improve sexual and reproductive health and rights through advocacy, as central to a human rights approach. Project activities include: (1) advocating to government at local, state or national levels, as well as to non-governmental decision-makers, in order for them to enact policy or legislative change and to implement these changes, (2) delivering sexual and reproductive health and rights services paired with advocacy, and (3) increasing awareness of sexual and reproductive health and rights, including the right to be free from sexual and gender-based violence, within communities, schools, and in public awareness campaigns to promote national dialogue on the barriers to those rights and the need for change. The project targets an estimated 25,000 direct beneficiaries comprised of 19,234 women and 5,766 men. / Le projet vise à lever les obstacles qui empêchent les femmes, les adolescentes et les filles de bénéficier d'un niveau optimal de santé sexuelle et reproductive, et de faire valoir leurs droits en ce domaine, notamment dans certaines régions du Bangladesh, du Salvador, des Philippines et du Soudan. Il aide à promouvoir leur santé et leurs droits sexuels et reproductifs (SDSR) par la défense de leurs intérêts, en tant qu'élément central d'une approche axée sur les droits de la personne. Les activités du projet comprennent : 1) des démarches auprès des pouvoirs publics – aux niveaux local, étatique ou national – et de décideurs non gouvernementaux, pour les amener à modifier les politiques ou les lois et à mettre en œuvre ces changements, 2) la prestation de services visant à promouvoir la santé et les droits sexuels et reproductifs, conjuguée à la promotion des droits et des intérêts, 3) une sensibilisation accrue à la santé et les droits sexuels et reproductifs, y compris le droit d'être à l'abri de la violence sexuelle et sexiste, dans les communautés, les écoles et les campagnes de sensibilisation publique, pour promouvoir le dialogue national sur les obstacles à l'exercice de ces droits et sur la nécessité d'améliorer les choses. Le projet cible environ 25 000 bénéficiaires directs, dont 19 234 femmes et 5 766 hommes.

This project aims to improve t...he sexual and reproductive health and rights of adolescent girls in the Atlantique and Mono departments of Benin. The project supports more than 108,000 adolescent girls aged 15 to 19 in the full exercise of their fundamental rights in the area of sexual and reproductive health. Project activities include: (1) training health care providers and community health volunteers in sexual and reproductive health and respect for adolescent girls' rights, including mental health, (2) providing sexual and reproductive health-related equipment to health centers, as well as modernize, expand or rehabilitate them, taking into account environmental standards, and (3) raising awareness among communities in terms of sexual and reproductive health and related rights of adolescent girls. The project works with all relevant stakeholders to achieve these results: from governance structures to local actors, through youth associations and health structures. This approach, among other things, provides a full range of family planning services and has a lasting impact. / Ce projet vise l'amélioration de la santé sexuelle et reproductive et du respect des droits des adolescentes des départements de l'Atlantique et du Mono au Bénin. Le projet appuie plus de 108 000 adolescentes de 15 à 19 ans dans le plein exercice de leurs droits fondamentaux en matière de santé sexuelle et reproductive. Parmi les activités du projet : 1) former les prestataires de soins et les agents de santé communautaires bénévoles en santé sexuelle et reproductive et au respect des droits des adolescentes, incluant en santé mentale, 2) fournir de l'équipement lié à la santé sexuelle et reproductive à des centres de santé, en plus de les moderniser, les agrandir ou les réhabiliter en tenant compte des normes environnementales, 3) sensibiliser les communautés en matière de santé sexuelle et reproductive et des droits connexes des adolescentes. Le projet travaille avec tous les acteurs pertinents : des structures de gouvernance aux acteurs locaux, en passant par les associations de jeunes et les structures de santé. Cette approche permet notamment d'offrir une gamme complète de services de planification familiale, en plus d'avoir un impact durable.

This project aims to improve a...ccess to sexual and reproductive health (SRH) and nutrition services that are adapted to the needs of adolescents in Burkina Faso, and to create a supportive environment for adolescent SRH, including the recognition of their rights. To this end, the project provides training and technical assistance to public health providers in nearly 700 health centres in order to promote good practices in the delivery of SRH services that are adapted to the needs of adolescents and respectful of their rights. The project also contributes to the development and dissemination of communication strategies and tools within the Ministry of Health and other partners on family planning, nutrition, sexually transmitted infections and HIV/AIDS. In addition, the project conducts advocacy with adolescents, teachers, parents, communities and policy makers. This project is implemented by Helen Keller International, in partnership with Marie Stopes Burkina Faso and Farm Radio International. / Ce projet vise à améliorer l'accès à des services de santé sexuelle et reproductive (SSR) et de nutrition qui sont adaptés aux besoins des adolescents (autant les filles que les garçons) au Burkina Faso, et à créer un environnement favorable à la SSR des adolescents, y compris la reconnaissance de leurs droits. Pour ce faire, le projet offre de la formation et de l'assistance technique aux prestataires de la santé publique dans près de 700 centres de santé afin de promouvoir de bonnes pratiques dans la livraison de services de SSR adaptés aux besoins et respectant les droits des adolescents. Le projet contribue aussi à l'élaboration et la reproduction de stratégies et d'outils de communication au sein du ministère de la Santé et des autres partenaires sur la planification familiale, la nutrition, les infections transmises sexuellement et le VIH/sida. De plus, le projet mène des efforts de sensibilisation et de plaidoyer auprès des adolescents, des enseignants, des parents, des communautés et des décideurs politiques. Ce projet est mis en œuvre par Helen Keller International, en partenariat avec Marie Stopes Burkina Faso et Radio rurales internationales.

This project aims to reduce mo...ther and child mortality rates in 15 areas of the Tshopo and Ituri provincial health divisions in the Democratic Republic of the Congo's Eastern Province. Health divisions have poorly trained workers, little capacity to plan and high rates of mothers and child mortality. Through this project, the delivery of adapted health services to mothers and children (age 0-5) aims to be improved by increasing the professional skills of health workers. Furthermore, supporting the local financial capacity should improve health services planning and access to quality data. To increase use of these health services, education campaigns are to be launched to teach about reducing maternity risks, family planning, sexually transmitted diseases, as well as early pregnancy. Project activities include: (1) training health care providers, (2) strengthening executives' management skills, (3) building five maternity wards and 15 maternity rehabilitation wards, (4) providing equipment and medicines, (5) launching awareness campaigns for the prevention of mother-child HIV/AIDS transmission,( 6) assisting 3,500 seropositive women and newborns, (7) launching an early pregnancy prevention campaign, and (8) organising knowledge sharing and networking events for the general Canadian public in order to stimulate their commitment to support MNCH initiatives in developing countries. Direct beneficiaries are: 300,000 pregnant women, 90,000 spouses (men), 43,000 youth (age 15-24) as well as 455,000 newborns and children under five, of which 52% are girls. These beneficiaries will be better informed and/or will use the improved health services. More than 700 health care providers (nurses, doctors, specialists), and 355 health care managers and executives will have stronger professional skills. Oxfam-Québec is implementing this project in collaboration with the following local partners: : Anti-Bwaki Mothers' Association, Ituri Provincial Health Division and Tshopo Provincial Health Division. / Ce projet vise à réduire la mortalité chez les mères et les enfants dans 15 zones des Divisions provinciales de la santé de la Tshopo et de l'Ituri, en Province Orientale de la République Démocratique du Congo (RDC). Les divisions provinciales de santé ont des travailleurs peu qualifiés, une faible capacité en planification et des taux de mortalité maternels et infantiles très élévés. La prestation des services de santé adaptés aux mères et aux enfants (0 à cinq ans) vise à être améliorée par l'accroissement des compétences professionnelles des travailleurs/ses de la santé. De plus, la planification des services de santé vise à être améliorée en supportant les capacités de financement local et l'accès à des données de qualité. The project aims to improve th...e well-being of children and youth in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) through the prevention of violence against children and youth, and the improvement of services for street children and at-risk families in five communes in Kinshasa. To do so, the project supports outreach activities and programs that focus on improving services offered at protection and health centres, taking into account the particular needs of girls and boys. The project also seeks to improve key public policies for child protection and strengthen respect of their rights. The project uses mechanisms such as inclusive consultation committees to allow children and youth to actively participate in, and influence, the decisions that affect them and the type of services available to them. / Le projet vise à améliorer le bien-être des enfants et des jeunes en République démocratique du Congo (RDC) par la prévention de la violence faite aux enfants et l'amélioration des services offerts aux familles à risques et aux enfants de la rue dans cinq communes de Kinshasa. Pour ce faire, le projet appuie des programmes et des activités communautaires qui visent à améliorer les services offerts dans les centres de protection et de santé et qui prennent en compte les besoins particuliers des garçons et des filles. Le projet cherche également à améliorer les politiques publiques clés en matière de protection de l'enfant et à renforcer le respect de leurs droits. Le projet utilise des mécanismes tels que des comités consultatifs inclusifs permettant aux enfants et aux jeunes de participer activement aux décisions qui les touchent ou qui portent sur la nature des services offerts à leur endroit.

The project aims to address ba...rriers faced by women, adolescent girls and girls in achieving their optimal level of sexual and reproductive health, and asserting their sexual and reproductive rights in selected districts of Bangladesh, El Salvador, the Philippines and Sudan. The project works to improve sexual and reproductive health and rights through advocacy, as central to a human rights approach. Project activities include: (1) advocating to government at local, state or national levels, as well as to non-governmental decision-makers, in order for them to enact policy or legislative change and to implement these changes, (2) delivering sexual and reproductive health and rights services paired with advocacy, and (3) increasing awareness of sexual and reproductive health and rights, including the right to be free from sexual and gender-based violence, within communities, schools, and in public awareness campaigns to promote national dialogue on the barriers to those rights and the need for change. The project targets an estimated 25,000 direct beneficiaries comprised of 19,234 women and 5,766 men. / Le projet vise à lever les obstacles qui empêchent les femmes, les adolescentes et les filles de bénéficier d'un niveau optimal de santé sexuelle et reproductive, et de faire valoir leurs droits en ce domaine, notamment dans certaines régions du Bangladesh, du Salvador, des Philippines et du Soudan. Il aide à promouvoir leur santé et leurs droits sexuels et reproductifs (SDSR) par la défense de leurs intérêts, en tant qu'élément central d'une approche axée sur les droits de la personne. Les activités du projet comprennent : 1) des démarches auprès des pouvoirs publics – aux niveaux local, étatique ou national – et de décideurs non gouvernementaux, pour les amener à modifier les politiques ou les lois et à mettre en œuvre ces changements, 2) la prestation de services visant à promouvoir la santé et les droits sexuels et reproductifs, conjuguée à la promotion des droits et des intérêts, 3) une sensibilisation accrue à la santé et les droits sexuels et reproductifs, y compris le droit d'être à l'abri de la violence sexuelle et sexiste, dans les communautés, les écoles et les campagnes de sensibilisation publique, pour promouvoir le dialogue national sur les obstacles à l'exercice de ces droits et sur la nécessité d'améliorer les choses. Le projet cible environ 25 000 bénéficiaires directs, dont 19 234 femmes et 5 766 hommes.

This project aims to support p...oor and vulnerable adolescent girls and young women in targeted communities of Ethiopia, Malawi, Mozambique and Zambia by increasing their knowledge of and access to their sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR). Project goals include: (1) empowering adolescent girls and young women to demand access to comprehensive sexual and reproductive health (SRH) information and services so they can make reproductive health choices for themselves, (2) improving the quality of SRH information and services, (3) strengthening the capacity of women's rights organisations and youth-led organisations to advocate for policies and resources that support SRHR, and (4) promoting the engagement and activism of Canadian youth, including those based in the Canadian North, through knowledge-exchange campaigns on global SRHR issues. Project activities include: (1) engaging communities to understand and transform discriminatory social norms, particularly sexual and gender-based violence facing adolescent girls and young women, (2) strengthening health systems to deliver comprehensive SRH services, including family planning, contraceptives, and safe and legal abortion, and (3) building capacity of local and Canadian women's rights organisations and youth-led organisations to advocate for change in SRHR policy and practice. The project is expected to train 596 health workers (including 367 women) and 1,000 community resource persons in comprehensive SRH information and services and reach 250,000 women and adolescents (80% of whom are adolescents and young women) and 90,000 men (including youth) through improved sexual and reproductive health information and services. It also indirectly affects approximately 800,000 people (51% of whom are women). / Ce projet vise à aider les adolescentes et les jeunes femmes pauvres et vulnérables dans des communautés ciblées de l'Éthiopie, du Malawi, du Mozambique et de la Zambie à être mieux informées sur leur santé et leurs droits sexuels et reproductifs (SDSR) et à y accéder. This project represents Canad...a's support to the 10th International AIDS Society (IAS) Conference on HIV Science - known as IAS 2019 - The 10th IAS Conference on HIV Science (IAS 2019) takinges place from July 21-24, 2019 in Mexico City, Mexico. The IAS Conference on HIV Science is the world's most influential meeting on HIV research and its applications. This biennial conference presents the critical advances in basic, clinical and operational research that moves science into policy and practice. Through its open and inclusive programme development, the meeting sets the gold standard of HIV research featuring highly diverse and cutting-edge studies. As a key platform for the intersection of science, advocacy and human rights, International AIDS Society (IAS) conferencess aim to review progress and scientific evidence, and identify course corrections in science, policy and advocacy, with a view to promote a human rights-based and gender-informed HIV response. This initiative aims to contribute to a more dynamic, inclusive and sustainable multi-sectoral response to the HIV/AIDS epidemic. Expected Results The expected outcomes for this project include: (1) HIV prevention, treatment and care policies and programmes are informed by latest scientific evidence, and (2) HIV and AIDS research agendas and policies reflect identified knowledge gaps across disciplines and in the context of programme implementation needs. /

This project supports activiti...es that respond to the COVID-19 pandemic in Mozambique. Project activities include: (1) providing psychosocial support to mentors and girls, (2) strengthening the referral pathway and response to existing and potential cases of violence against girls and young women, (3) strengthening sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) and sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) services in targeted districts, and (4) mobilizing and training a network of adolescent and youth change agents who can inform, co-design and support the COVID-19 response, prevent its spread and mitigate its secondary impact. / Ce projet appuie des activités qui répondent à la pandémie de COVID-19 au Mozambique. Les activités de ce projet comprennent : 1) l'offre d'un soutien psychosocial aux mentors et aux filles, 2) le renforcement de la voie d'orientation et la réponse aux cas existants et potentiels de violence à l'égard des filles et des jeunes femmes, 3) le renforcement de la santé et des droits sexuels et reproductifs (SDSR) et des services de lutte contre la violence sexuelle et sexiste (VSS) dans les districts ciblés, 4) la mobilisation et la formation d'un réseau d'agents de changement adolescents et jeunes qui peuvent informer, co-concevoir et soutenir la réponse à la COVID-19, sa propagation et atténuer son impact secondaire.
