General response by Internatio...nal Medical Corps in Jordan: Our Response
Health Care
International Medical Corps is the sole medical provider in Azraq refugee camp, which is home to nearly 38,000 Syrians. We run three primary health care clinics and a hospital in Azraq that together provide more 21,000 consultations a month. This includes sexual and reproductive health care such as ante- and post-natal care services, obstetrics and pediatrics.
Mental health and psychosocial support
The psychological toll on Syrian refugees is immense. Forced from their homes by war, many have experienced extreme levels of violence and loss. In Jordan, they face pressures to start again in a country that is not their own, uncertain of if and when they will return to Syria. International Medical Corps provides mental health care services in 17 locations—four in camps and 13 in urban areas. This includes incorporating mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) services into our health care services as well as in Ministry of Health primary health care facilities. We train Ministry of Health staff and other primary health care providers in MHPSS so that people have greater access to services, while also reducing the stigma of receiving mental health care.
Protection
International Medical Corps runs a safe space for women and girls—known as the Women’s Haven—in Azraq camp where protection measures are put in place to help prevent gender-based violence (GBV) and connect them to services in the camp. This includes making thoughtful shelter assignments for female-headed households as well as providing hygiene products and other items. We also provide support for survivors, including health and mental health care.
International Medical Corps also provides protection and psychosocial activities for children and youth through Makani (“my space” in Arabic) Centers. We run five Makani Centers in Zaatari camp, two in Azraq camp and three in urban areas, all of which provide young people with learning opportunities, life skills training and psychosocial support services. They also promote social cohesion, as they are open to Jordanian and Syrian children and supported by community-based committees who help identify and refer vulnerable children. The Makani Centers also help raise awareness about child rights, GBV and other protection issues.

SAFE WATER
Most of South and E...ast Darfur is a semi-arid landscape, susceptible to drought, with few natural surface water sources. ARC first assesses the water needs of communities and then develops projects alongside them that provide clean water, sanitation, and hygiene education. We work to rebuild and maintain lost critical infrastructure, and help communities to learn and manage these resources themselves.
FIGHTING
MALNUTRITION
Malnutrition, particularly among children, is reaching emergency levels in Sudan. The most recent national survey estimates that 500,000 children under 5 years of age suffer from severe malnutrition, and up to two million children are underdeveloped. We address this crisis head on through feeding programs, educational campaigns, cooking demonstrations, treatment and prevention, and emergency care to the most critical of cases.
PROMOTING A
PEACEFUL COEXISTENCE
Lasting peace will ultimately allow for stability, prosperity, and development in the region. Conflicts in Sudan have a long and turbulent history, however, making peace a formidable task. In recognition of this challenge, ARC provides peace-building activities in five villages in South Darfur, encouraging community-level conflict resolution and cooperation amongst neighbors. By encouraging collaboration rather than competition, we hope to be even a small part of promoting peace in the region.
PRIORITIZING
WOMEN & CHILDREN
Sudan has a devastatingly high maternal and infant mortality rate. We’ve been working to turn this trend around, making women and children a priority and ensuring the availability of reproductive health for all we can access. Women receive comprehensive care throughout their pregnancy with pre-natal and post-natal consultations, often with midwives we’ve trained. We give them the supplies they need, including vitamins, soap, and any medications, safeguarding them against harmful infections and malnutrition before and after birth.

International Medical Corps ac...tivities in Syria in general: Health Care
The war has taken a tremendous toll on Syria’s health care system, as hospitals and clinics have been damaged or destroyed and many doctors and nurses have fled the country. Furthermore, many health facilities are left overburdened and unable to deal with the surge in caseloads that result from damage to nearby facilities. International Medical Corps, in coordination with the Syrian Arab Red Crescent (SARC), supports health clinics, health posts and mobile medical clinics. These facilities provide vital primary health care services to Syrian families, including care for communicable and non-communicable diseases and reproductive health services, while also helping people get access to more advanced care as needed.
Mental health and psychosocial support
Syrian families have been exposed to extreme levels of violence as a result of the war and have often lost loved ones, livelihoods, and homes. International Medical Corps integrates mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) services into its health care services so that people also have the care the emotional and psychological care they need. This includes running mobile MHPSS teams, who visit families in their homes to provide counseling and other services. We also work with local partners to provide psychosocial support activities for conflict-affected children, youth and their families and run a four-month rehabilitation program for children with development delays and disorders.
Water, sanitation, and hygiene
International Medical Corps runs hygiene promotion campaigns in displacement shelters, schools and communities in an effort to prevent disease outbreaks and keep vulnerable families healthy. We also distribute hygiene kits and materials that help people stay clean and healthy.
Emergency relief items
International Medical Corps regularly distributes relief supplies to tens of thousands of people in need. This includes medical aids for people suffering from physical disabilities such as wheelchairs, walkers, air mattresses and toilet chairs as well as hygiene items such as soap, shampoo and diapers.
Protection Services
International Medical Corps is working to prevent and respond to gender-based violence (GBV) in Syria. This includes case management for survivors of GBV as well as running awareness-raising campaigns in displacement shelters and health care clinics. We also train first responders to better respond to child protection and GBV issues in their day-to-day work.

International Orthodox Christi...an Charities's activites in Syria in general: Helping People on Syrian Soil
Emergency Aid
Thanks to you, we are delivering essential supplies for Syrians who lack basic essentials for living, including:
• basic food supplies
• clean water
• cooking equipment
• baby supplies, including diapers
• dignity kits for women
• clothing and shoes
• mattresses and bedding
Shelter
Donors like you make it possible for IOCC to give families who have been displaced by the conflict a decent place to call home by:
• repairing and renovating temporary shelters and apartments
• providing assistance to keep families from being further displaced by a lack of jobs and the financial resources to find adequate housing
Healthcare
Vital healthcare services for Syrians are often inaccessible or are not affordable. Your support is making a difference by providing:
• Medical supplies for hospitals in the Syrian cities of Hama, Hasakeh, Aleppo, Damascus, Dara’a, Lattakia, Swaida and Tartous
• Hospital Equipment for essential services, including minor surgical procedures
• Support for emergency surgeries and safe deliveries of newborn babies
Psychological Support
War victims attend workshops on stress management and learn to rebuild their confidence and self-esteem. Art and music therapy help traumatized children express their feelings and cope with nightmares caused by the constant violence.
Education
IOCC is providing educational support and repairing schools to help children stay on track with their learning -- despite the fact that any have been uprooted from their homes, many multiple times.
• More than 40,000 school kits and hygiene kits have been given to Syrian children at schools in Damascus.
• Your donations are also providing school uniforms and rehabilitating damaged schools to help children return to class, while also providing incomes for those who are sewing the uniforms and doing construction work.
Water and Sanitation
IOCC is repairing wells and water systems that are improving access to safe water; and in some locations drilling additional water wells. We are also responding by:
• installing storage tanks and water filters
• renovating and installing sanitation facilities
• conducting awareness sessions on good hygiene practices.
• providing personal hygiene kits
Cash-for-Work
IOCC’s Cash-for-Work programs in Syria provide incomes to people to do short-term jobs that benefit the community, such as sewing winter clothes and school uniforms for children, and cleaning up parks and other recreational spaces for community use.

International Rescue Committee...'s activites in Syria in general: Our programs are led by cross-border teams in Iraq, Turkey and Jordan—each providing support that is tailored to the communities they serve. As violence, displacement, and poverty wrack Syria, the IRC is escalating our response by:
• partnering with local and diaspora groups to ensure the uninterrupted flow of medicines, supplies, and equipment;
• providing emergency cash assistance to help displaced families meet their immediate needs;
• operating clinics and mobile teams to provide lifesaving trauma services, primary and reproductive care, dialysis and essential drugs;
• integrating mental health services into our primary care work;
• running classes, counseling and protection services for thousands of children in camps and communities;
• creating safe spaces for women and girls that offer services for survivors of violence, as well as counseling and skills training;
• building households’ economic stability with job training, apprenticeships, and small business support.
