PREVENT focuses on characteriz...ing risks associated with disease transmission between animals and people and developing risk-mitigation strategies. Specific activities include: characterizing specific practices and behaviors (e.g. bushmeat hunting and butchering, raising wildlife for trade and consumption) that expose people to zoonotic diseases; and developing and deploying risk-mitigation strategies, including a tool for extractive-industry workers to decrease their exposure to emerging zoonoses.

TRANSLATING RESEARCH INTO ACTI...ON (TRACTION) PROJECT - PANDEMIC INFLUENZA AND OTHER EMERGING THREATS (PIOET)

|
Translating Research into Acti...on (TRAction) Project - Pandemic Influenza and Other Emerging Threats (PIOET)
more
|
The purpose of the Translating... Research into Action (TRAction) Project is to accelerate the introduction and scale up of approaches and interventions that when implemented in programs will reduce mortality and severe morbidity in women, newborns and young children. There is a preponderance of evidence on the potential impact of specific maternal, neonatal and child health interventions yet the successful implementation and scale-up of these in countries remains a challenge. TRAction will address this knowledge gap by managing research, introduction and evaluation activities on how to effectively deliver, increase utilization, achieve coverage, and scale-up evidence based newborn, child, maternaland integrated MNCH health and nutrition tools, approaches, interventions and policies that are relevant to field programs.

This activity is now known as ...Women and the Web. It is a public-private partnership among USAID, NetHope, Intel Corporation, World Pulse, World Vision, UN Women, and Women in Technology in Nigeria. Alliance partners will combine efforts to transform the lives and livelihoods of girls and women in Africa through digital literacy training, relevant content, policy work, and online social networks. The Alliance will introduce girls and women to the transformative benefits of the Internet. All partners share a common interest in increasing access to and use of the Internet to realize the socio-economic benefits for all of bringing more girls and women online. This effort will expand opportunities for young women to generate greater income, receive a quality education, increase their sense of empowerment and equity, extend their support networks, and increase their political participation. Funding to support this activity comes from the Women's Leadership initiative.

Systems for Improved Access to... Pharmaceuticals and Services (SIAPS) - Pandemic Influenza and Other Emerging Threats (PIOET)

|
SIAPS focuses on enhancing pha...rmaceutical services through patientcentered solutions while continuing to support essential supply chain functions and medical products supply security. The SIAPS goal is to support the achievement of improved and sustained health outcomes by applying a systems strengthening approach consistent with the Global Health Initiative (GHI) principles. The SIAPS result areas address the intersections of five health systems components as they pertain to pharmaceutical services (governance, human resources, information, financing, and service delivery) in the design of potential interventions to ensure that they respond to health element and cross cutting concerns in support of health system strengthening.

Applying Science to Strengthen... and Improve Systems (ASSIST) - Pandemic Influenza and Other Emerging Threats (PIOET)
more
|
The objective of the USAID App...lying Science to Strengthen and Improve Systems (ASSIST) Project is to improve the quality and outcomes of health care and other services by enabling host country providers and managers to apply the science of improvement. The project seeks to build the capacity of host country service delivery organizations in USAID-assisted countries to improve the effectiveness, efficiency, client-centeredness, safety, accessibility, and equity of the health and family services they provide. USAID ASSIST also seeks to institutionalize the capacity to improve through competency development at the pre- and in-service levels as well as engaging with host country governments at the policy level.

The Knowledge for Health (K4He...alth) Project is the flagship health knowledge management project of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). The current iteration of the Knowledge for Health (K4Health) Project is the latest in a lineage of reproductive health knowledge-sharing projects which began over 40 years ago. K4Health's focus is on social knowledge management for family planning and reproductive health. The Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health's Center for Communication Programs (JHUCCP) manages the project in partnership with the Global Health Bureau at the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). IntraHealth International joins longtime collaborators FHI 360 and Management Sciences for Health as partners with JHUCCP.

MPI- G8 Investment Support Pro...gram - Pandemic Influenza and Other Emerging Threats (PIOET)
more
|
The USAID Investment Support P...rogram (ISP) serves as the keystone award for USAID's efforts to provide a full range of financial and investment services to potential investors; private sector actors; host government organizations; USAID field missions throughout the world; and USAID geographic and pillar bureaus. This activity will focus on mobilizing private sector capital towards opportunities that can generate an economic and social impact. This program is global in scope, with potential activities in any country and/or region where USAID operates. It is also open to engaging in any economic sector, in support of current and future Agency priorities. It is anticipated that at least 50% of this program's funding will be dedicated to agriculture activities in support of the Feed the Future Initiative.
