Zambia's vector control strate...gy includes indoor residual spraying (IRS) and insecticide treated nets (ITNs) as principal interventions with the aim of achieving high vector control coverage. The strategy proposes ITNs for communities not reached or ineligible. IRS is a key addition to ITNs for vector control. The IRS TBD will procure IRS commodities, support appropriate storage facilities for IRS commodities and environmental control and compliance, support targeted districts to program, monitor and evaluate IRS implementation, and support entomologic surveillance.

Building on decades of USAIDs ...work procuring health commodities and strengthening supply chains, the Global Health Supply Chain-Procurement and Supply Management project is working to transform global and national supply chains for health commodities. The project integrates two former USAID programs into one efficient supply chain that serves many of the worlds most vulnerable and difficult-to-reach communities. MEASURE -- Strengthening Monit...oring, Evaluation and Research Capacity of the Community Health and Social Service Programs in the United Republic of Tanzania
more
|
The project is designed to imp...rove the use of information in decision making within the national health and social services systems. Over the life of the project, results will include better service, systems, and vital health-related outcomes. Activities funded through this OP are solely malaria funded, and will focus on malaria specific data demand and use approaches to build host country counterpart capacity. Capacity will be built in multiple areas, including data analysis and communication to inform different audiences, to help policy makers and program managers use data in decision making, and to improve structured supervision in monitoring and evaluation activities. The data tools are also used to identify barriers to data use, deficiencies in data quality, and to suggest opportunities for improved data use among stakeholders. The activity aims at addressing the cross-cutting intermediate result (CCIR) of the Country Development Cooperation Strategy (CDCS) in fostering using data for evidence decision making and planning.

MATERNAL AND CHILD SURVIVAL PR...OGRAM (MCSP - FORMERLY RMNCH)
more
|
Maternal and Child Survival Pr...ogram (MCSP - formerly RMNCH)
more
|
The United States Agency for I...nternational Developments (USAID) Bureau for Global Healths flagship Maternal and Child Survival Program (MCSP) focuses on 25 high-priority countries with the ultimate goal of preventing child and maternal deaths. The Program is introducing and supporting high-impact, sustainable reproductive, maternal, newborn and child health (RMNCH) interventions in partnership with ministries of health and other partners. MCSP places a greater emphasis on key cross-cutting issues such as innovation, e/mHealth, equity, quality, gender, public-private partnerships and involvement of civil society, community approaches, health systems strengthening, and behavior change interventions. While maintaining a focus on technical, high-impact interventions; the Program works toward sustainable scale-up to include the health systems that deliver these interventions. In addition to contributing to high-level technical and policy dialogue at the global level, the Program provides tailored technical assistance to help countries meet specific priorities and contextual needs of local RMNCH programs.

VECTORWORKS
|
VectorWorks
|
VectorWorks is a five-year (20...14-19) global project to increase access to and use of long-lasting insecticidal nets (LLINs) and other proven vector control interventions for malaria prevention. The project is funded by the Presidents Malaria Initiative (PMI) under a USAID cooperative agreement. It envisions a world where every family has the ability to protect itself from malaria through vector control technologies that are easy to use, easy to access and easy to afford. VectorWorks has a comprehensive and dynamic approach to empower governments, civil society and the private sector to create sustainable systems to improve access to and appropriate use of insecticide-treated mosquito nets (ITNs) and other vector control technologies. VectorWorks will innovatively expand on the strong and successful work of the NetWorks project to support and strengthen distribution networks, create demand for and promote consistent use of ITNs, and strategically apply and use research findings. These are the necessary next steps down the path to elimination of malaria.

Comprehensive Platform for Int...egrated Communication Initiative (CPICI)
more
|
The goal of the Comprehensive ...Platform for Integrated Communications Initiative (CPICI) Cooperative Agreement is to support the Recipient's interventions and collaboration with the Government of Tanzania (GOT) to improve the health status especially of women and youth. The purpose is to support the Recipient's program to foster positive health practices in households and communities through changes in social and cultural norms that will enable and maintain these practices. Specifically, USAID intends to support interventions consistent with a strategic approach of using social behavior change communication interventions to improve the health of Tanzanians, demonstrating a clear link between program interventions and health status outcomes. USAID seeks to support a program where messages are tailored to geographic, epidemiological and audience segments at the regional level. Because regional radio programs have proven successful in the past, USAID seeks to support a program that incorporates this type of radio as a core media channel. Beyond traditional media, USAID seeks to support a program that is expected to use innovative techniques and mobile technologies to support program quality, reach, and effectiveness.

USAID supports the Uganda Nati...onal Malaria Control Strategic Plan goals for indoor residual spraying (IRS), aiming to cover 85 percent of all structures and protect at least 85 percent of the population in 14 target districts in Northern Uganda. In FY 2015, this program will conduct two rounds of spraying in the target districts. Approximately 1,100,000 houses will be sprayed and more than three million people will be protected. Other activities to be implemented by the program include IRS capacity building for national and district vector control teams, support to the Gulu insectary, entomological and environmental monitoring, and behavior change and community mobilization activities. The President's Malaria Initiative will continue with capacity development of the public and private sector (i.e. the Ministry of Health, district local governments, and private companies) to provide appropriate supervision and oversight of IRS activities.
