|
The objective of the USAID App...lying Science to Strengthen and Improve Systems (ASSIST) Project is to improve the quality and outcomes of health care and other services by enabling host country providers and managers to apply the science of improvement. The project seeks to build the capacity of host country service delivery organizations in USAID-assisted countries to improve the effectiveness, efficiency, client-centeredness, safety, accessibility, and equity of the health and family services they provide. USAID ASSIST also seeks to institutionalize the capacity to improve through competency development at the pre- and in-service levels as well as engaging with host country governments at the policy level.

|
NetWorks: Building Capacity fo...r Sustained Net Coverage and Use - Malaria
more
|
NetWorks is a comprehensive an...d innovative program to build sustainable long-lasting insecticidal nets (LLIN) systems that bridge the key technical areas of advocacy, policy, distribution, monitoring, and communications for increased net access and use in malaria endemic countries. Endemic countries, particularly in Africa, differ widely in resources (financial and human) and experiences with LLIN distribution that contribute to a unique net context in each country. Partnerships and policies vary widely, while procurement and distribution challenges hamper implementation. This combination of issues underscores the need for flexibility inherent in the NetWorks approach. NetWorks emphasizes fitting program activities to the national net context.

The United States Agency for I...nternational Development’s (USAID) Bureau for Global Health’s flagship Maternal and Child Survival Program (MCSP) focuses on 25 high-priority countries with the ultimate goal of preventing child and maternal deaths. The Program is introducing and supporting high-impact, sustainable reproductive, maternal, newborn and child health (RMNCH) interventions in partnership with ministries of health and other partners.
MCSP accepts all sources of health funds and can be accessed via field support. While the Program is the principal follow-on to the Maternal and Child Health Integrated Program (MCHIP), the scope has expanded to reflect a changing global RMNCH landscape as well as shifts in USAID’s own priorities. MCSP places a greater emphasis on key cross-cutting issues such as innovation, e/mHealth, equity, quality, gender, public-private partnerships and involvement of civil society, community approaches, health systems strengthening, and behavior change interventions. While maintaining a focus on technical, high-impact interventions, the Program works toward sustainable scale-up to include the health systems that deliver these interventions.
MCSP is a partnership led by Jhpiego, with Save the Children Federation, Inc., John Snow, Inc., ICF, Results for Development Institute, PATH, CORE Group and PSI as lead partners, and Broad Branch Associates, Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, Communications Initiative and Avenir Health as associate partners. In addition to contributing to high-level technical and policy dialogue at the global level, the Program provides tailored technical assistance to help countries meet specific priorities and contextual needs of local RMNCH programs, including:
Supporting countries to increase coverage and utilization of evidence-based, high-quality RMNCH interventions at the household, community and health facility levels, integrating with nutrition, malaria, HIV/AIDS and water, sanitation and hygiene interventions as appropriate.
Closing innovation gaps to improve health outcomes among high-burden and vulnerable populations through engagement with a broad range of partners.
Fostering effective policy, action-oriented learning and accountability for improved outcomes.
Supporting countries to strengthen existing national health management information systems, including RMNCH data elements, data quality and the use of data to inform programmatic decision-making.
Strengthening civil society, local institutions and communities and engaging at all levels to enhance the responsiveness of health systems to local and community health needs.
Enhancing district-level decision-making through rapid household surveys to determine coverage and health facility assessments and quality of facility interventions.
Applying gender, equity and health systems-focused approaches to improve service availability, access, quality, demand, cost-effectiveness and utilization at scale.
Providing technical assistance to design, implement and/or evaluate models, tools and approaches to address the special needs of adolescents and youth for family planning and maternal and newborn health services in an integrated fashion.

In FY 2015, this mechanism wil...l support the continuation of durability monitoring and insecticide efficacy of long-lasting insecticidal nets in Burma. The FY 2015 Malaria Operational Plan is fully aligned with the PMI goals, and has already undergone an inter-agency review and been approved by the Malaria Coordinator. VectorWorks is a five-year glo...bal project, funded by the President’s Malaria Initiative, that aims to scale up vector control for malaria prevention through improved distribution of insecticide-treated mosquito nets (ITNs), optimal roll-out of promising alternative vector control tools, and global policies that are informed by the use of monitoring and evaluation data. We are committed to a future where no one dies from malaria. VectorWorks develops and implements better ways to distribute ITNs, conducts research to inform evidence-based decision-making, and works to improve policy at global and country levels.
