This concern for human behaviour in an environment of poverty echoes the concerns of the new research priority for “diseases of poverty” identified by the Special Programme for Research & Training in Tropical Diseases.

ted 22 million people are now acutely food insecure because of the drought. The malnutrition situation is also critical. Some 5.1 million children across drought-affected areas of the three countries are acutely malnourished in 2023, with dire implications for their health, growth and survival. Concerningly, the upcoming March-May 2023 rains are also forecast to be below-average. Should these rains fail, and humanitarian assistance not be delivered at scale, food insecurity will continue to deteriorate.
Regardless of how the 2023 rains perform, extremely high humanitarian needs will persist through 2023 while a full recovery from a drought of this magnitude will take years. To address the devastating drought-induced hunger and malnutrition across the region, WFP is pursuing an integrated dual track approach; meeting immediate life-saving food and nutritional needs while simultaneously building resilience to extreme climate variability.

The Health and Protection JOF was conceived in 2019 as a collaboration between the Global Health Cluster (GHC), the Global Protection Cluster (GPC) and its Areas of Responsibility (AoRs), the Inter-Agency Standing Committee Reference Group on Mental Health and Psychosocial Support in Emergency Settings (IASC MHPSS RG), and the Inter-Agency Working Group for Reproductive Health in Crisis (IAWG), in addition to key technical experts.
A Steering Group (SG) comprised of representatives from each of these entities guided the framework through a joint global analysis of good practices, gaps, and barriers to integrated and inter-sectoral response coordination. This included a mixed methods review of policy and practice, a survey of humanitarian experts, multiple case studies, structured stakeholder interviews, and field visits. This exercise produced a zero-draft which was then reviewed by field practitioners in three operational contexts to clarify and fully coordinate its operationally focused lens. Finally, the JOF was reviewed by the SG including via a series of consultations in early 2023 to consolidate the current framework.

eso, desde el Ministerio de Salud de la Nación y la Organización Panamericana de la Salud (OPS/OMS) presentamos el Manual Clínico “Atención integral de la salud ante situaciones de violencias por motivos de género. Herramientas para equipos de salud”, adaptado técnica y culturalmente a nuestro país a partir de la versión original de la Organización Mundial de la Salud (OMS). El presente manual está dirigido a todas las personas que integran equipos de salud interdisciplinarios e intersaberes del sistema sanitario (formadas en Medicina, Psicología, Enfermería, Trabajo Social, asesoramiento legal, agentes sanitarios, administración, promotoras y promotores de la salud, etc.) en especial a quienes trabajan en el primer nivel de atención. Su propósito es brindarles herramientas para la atención integral a mujeres, LGBTI+» y niñas, niños, niñes y adolescentes (en adelante, NyA) que atraviesan o han atravesado situaciones de violencias por motivos de género (en adelante, VMG).
