Since the region could be threatened in the coming months, FAO is strongly encouraging no regret investments in preparedness and anticipatory action to control swarms and safeguard livelihoods, given already high levels of acute food insecurity. En 2018, Plan International decidió implementar una estrategia regional en Colombia, Ecuador y Perú para mejorar las condiciones de vida de los refugiados y migrantes venezolanos, durante sus etapas de tránsito y asentamiento.
Durante los meses de junio y julio de 2019, el equipo de la oficina regional visitó más de siete ciudades entre Colombia, Ecuador y Perú para escuchar los testimonios de los refugiados y migrantes, así como para analizar sus necesidades en materia de mecanismos de protección, prevención de la violencia y salud sexual y reproductiva.

While many refugee hosting countries have policies that allow refugees to access national health services, many face partial access, prohibitive out-of-pocket expenditures and other barriers including distance to facilities, language and provider acceptance. Furthermore, more work is needed on strengthening these systems to be able to meet the needs of both host communities and refugees.
