Challenges and Opportunities. This report presents a comprehensive assessment of the education and labor markets for nurses in the ECSA region. It documents the main challenges to train and deploy nurses and discusses opportunities for government and private sector employers to overcome these chall...enges. The report provides empirical evidence to support the expansion of nursing education within the region with a focus on private sector engagement, effective labor market regulation, and regional collaboration. A regional focus for investment may be necessary to create enough potential deals, reduce individual country and regulatory risks, encourage good private institutions to move across borders within the region, and seek to create regional standards for regulation.more
The Ministry of Health and Social Services achnowledges that approximately half the population of the global south live in rural areas and that these areas are only served by 38% of health workers. It is against this background that the Ministry conducted this study on order to estimate the number o...f health workers required in the country and thus ensure health coverage to all Namibians towards achieving Universal Health Coverage.more
This case study in Chile focused on the following two strategic levers of the WHO/UNICEF PHC Operational Framework during the implementation period 2022–2023: “Political Commitment and Leadership” and “Governance and Policy Frameworks”. This included examining how support from the three le...vels of the Organization (WHO headquarters, Pan American Health Organization (PAHO)/WHO Regional Office for the Americas and PAHO/WHO Chile Country Office) has been coordinated and operationalized. The case study also explored how, through these two strategic levers, catalytic actions have been planned and implemented in relation to other operational levers, in particular “Models of care”.more

It is hoped that their experiences and insights will be valuable for countries encountering An. stephensi for the first time.more

Results from the baseline study indicated that schoolgirls in the southwestern refugee settlement context lacked access to the menstrual hygiene knowledge and products required for them to manage their menstruation in a healthy and dignified manner. Although UNHCR mandates that all women and girls o...f reproductive age are to receive distributions of disposable sanitary pads, soap and underwear, 71% of the girls reported not having enough menstrual products, 65% reported not having enough soap and 59% reported not having enough underwear. 44% percent also reported that they didn’t have enough information about menstrual hygiene. more
Following a long recovery from the economic crisis (2007–2013), young people in the EU proved to be more vulnerable to the effects of the restrictions put in place to slow the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic. Young people were more likely than older groups to experience job loss, financial insecur...ity and mental health problems. They reported reduced life satisfaction and mental well-being associated with the stay-at-home requirements and school closures. While governments responded quickly to the pandemic, most efforts to mitigate the effects of restrictions were temporary measures aimed at preventing job loss and keeping young people in education. This report explores the effects of the pandemic on young people, particularly in terms of their employment, well-being and trust in institutions, and assesses the various policy measures introduced to alleviate these effects.
