Identification and management of co-infections in people with malaria

Malaria is the symptomatic illness caused by the mosquito transmitted parasites Plasmodium falciparum,P vivax,P ovale,P malariae, and P knowlesi. It is one of the most common causes of feverin many malaria endemic countries and in travellersreturning from those countries. The World HealthOrganization estimated 249 million malaria cases in2022 worldwide, 94% attributable to P falciparuminfections in Africa, where children have the greatestburden of severe disease.
